Coping During the Los Angeles Fires: Tools & Compassion

The ongoing fires in Los Angeles are a heavy burden for so many. It’s okay to feel overwhelmed, anxious, or even guilty about trying to maintain some normalcy during this time.

Here are 5 ways to cope and take care of yourself:

1️⃣ Normalize Your Feelings

It’s normal to feel a mix of emotions—fear, sadness, anger, or even numbness. Some might feel guilty for enjoying parts of life while others are struggling. Remember: Taking care of yourself is not selfish.

2️⃣ Prioritize Your Safety

Follow evacuation orders, check air quality regularly (try apps like AirNow or PurpleAir), and stay indoors with an air purifier if possible.

3️⃣ Stay Connected

Reach out to friends, family, or a support group. Talking about your experience can help you process and feel less isolated.

4️⃣ Create Small Comforts

In uncertain times, small routines can ground you. Take a bath, cook a comforting meal, or watch a favorite show to create moments of calm.

5️⃣ Limit Exposure

It’s important to stay informed, but overloading on news or social media can heighten anxiety. Set specific times to check updates and give yourself permission to unplug.

💬 Remember:
It’s okay to laugh, to relax, or to find joy, even now. These moments of normalcy don’t mean you care less—they mean you’re human.

✨ Stay safe, stay kind, and take it one day at a time. ✨

Good afternoon. I have a patient who has MediCal and is in need of a neuropsychological evaluation. Her family is paying for my services, but they cannot afford paying for any evaluations out of pocket. Any information is appreciated. Thank you.

Good morning. I have a female patient who is looking for a support group for “women who have survived a relationship with a Narcissist”. Does a group like this exist? In-person or virtual. Thank you in advance.

🌿 Unraveling Anxious Attachment: Understanding Its Origins 🌿

Welcome to the kickoff of my Attachment Theory series! Today, let's delve into the intricate world of Anxious Attachment and what lies beneath its surface.

🔍 Anxious Attachment: A Closer Look

Anxious Attachment, a core aspect of Attachment Theory, manifests as a deep-seated fear of abandonment and a constant craving for reassurance and closeness.
Those with an anxious attachment style often find themselves consumed by worries about relationship stability, leading to seeking constant validation and reassurance from their partners.

💔 What Causes Anxious Attachment?

1. Childhood experiences play a pivotal role. Inconsistent caregiving or early separation from caregivers can sow the seeds of insecurity and mistrust, shaping attachment patterns later in life.
2. Traumatic events, such as loss or neglect, can exacerbate anxious attachment tendencies, heightening the fear of abandonment and reinforcing maladaptive coping mechanisms.

🌱 Navigating Towards Healing

1. Recognizing the roots of anxious attachment is the first step toward healing.
2. Understanding the impact of past experiences allows us to cultivate self-compassion and break free from destructive relationship patterns.
3. Therapy provides a safe space to explore and unpack these deep-seated emotions, fostering resilience and empowering individuals to forge healthier, more fulfilling connections.

Let's embark on this journey of self-discovery and growth together, as we unravel the complexities of attachment and pave the way towards healing. Stay tuned for more insights and reflections in my Attachment Theory series! 🌟

⭐️As we bid farewell to the challenges of the passing year and enter into a new year, it’s an ideal time for us to reflect back and assess what worked for us in the past, and move forward with new goals for an even healthier and happier year ahead. One goal we should all add to our list is to give our emotional, mental and physical health the priority it deserves. Here are some ways to do that:

-Take time to reflect.
-Evaluate your choices.
-Refresh your spaces—physical and mental.
-Conduct a comprehensive well-being check-up.
-Embrace rest and reflection.
-Craft your guiding resolutions for the new year.

Keep your goals tailored to you: Rather than succumbing to generic resolutions, design goals that align with your unique preferences and lifestyle. The key is to make them not only achievable but also sustainable. Break down larger goals into manageable steps, recognizing that progress is often achieved incrementally.
The start of a new year is an opportunity for self-reflection, growth, and a renewed mindset. Instead of falling into the cliché of New Year’s resolutions, focus on crafting a new mindset for the coming year. Please DM me for more information or help in fulfilling all of your goals! 🎯
