FYI !!
Today is International Overdose Awareness Day, when we shine a light on the public health crisis of drug overdoses, mourn lives lost due to overdose, and celebrate lives saved.
Tragically, over five Los Angeles County residents die of drug overdoses daily and nearly 92,000 people in the U.S. died from drug-related overdoses in 2020. It is more important now than ever to continue to spread the message of hope, recovery, and compassion that lets people at risk for overdose know that they are loved and that there is a community that will rally around them.
While we are amid the worst overdoses crisis in national and local history and this represents a tremendous challenge, we are also excited about the progress that LA Country’s substance use treatment system has made since implementation of the Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System and expansion of SAPC’s harm reduction network, known as Engagement and Overdose Prevention (EOP) Hubs, which engages community members at highest risk for overdose to provide education and lifesaving overdose prevention services. We look forward to continuing our work together to maximize the unique opportunities ahead of us that strengthen substance use prevention and treatment services, and advance the health and wellness of people across the County.
Thank you for the tireless work of your agencies to loudly declare: Prevention First, Treatment Works, and Recovery is Possible!
