This month I played with the concept of ghosts that haunt us from within. This correlates to my own inner world as much as it does to the work I do with clients in therapy. Here are 4 episodes of a little something I call Therapy Ghost Stories.
"I'm inclined to think that we're all ghosts... It's not only the things that we've inherited from our fathers and mothers that live on in us, but all sorts of old dead ideas and old dead beliefs, and things of that sort. They're not actually alive in us, but they're rooted there all the same, and we can't rid ourselves of them..." -Henrik Ibsen
I had fun connecting to my inner ghosts. From shame, to addiction, to unrealized purpose, and the immortal inner child, it was empowering to imagine sometimes-disruptive parts of me in this vivid, creative, and loving (albeit frightfully) kind of way; with personalities, with agendas, with their own kind of protective-love-gone-off-the-rails.
A silly but meaningful way to foster a deeper connection with what makes me me, while adding some light to the shadowy corners.
Happy Halloween! đź‘»
