Self-care looks different for everybody. For some it’s a spa day, for some it’s spending time with loved ones, for some it’s spending time in nature. 🌿

Every year for my birthday we take a road trip to the American Southwest. It’s self care for me for so many reasons. ❤️

It’s where we took vacations for many years in my childhood. The red rocks, green pines and deep blue skies became indelibly linked to my sense of personal “home”.

It’s where I feel the most like myself. The most grounded, the most connected, and the most free. 🙌🏼

Is there a place where you feel connected and free? Take a road trip. Or a plane. If there’s nothing on the books yet, plan something!

It feels great to have something to look forward to, and that sounds like self care to me. 🙌🏼🤍✨

🦋✨🤍 Many of us, especially women, were socialized to believe that taking care of the needs of others is the way to show love.

While taking care of others can be an important part of our identity, what often happens in the process is we become desensitized to our own needs, eventually feeling drained and sometimes even resentful.

I tell my clients all the time: you can’t pour from an empty cup!

Fill your own cup first and then you will be able to better help and tend to the needs of those who need you.

So repeat after me: Self-care is not selfish. 🤍✨🦋

🦋✨🤍 Have you ever found yourself “over reacting“ to a comment or situation? I know I have!

When this happens, there’s a good chance that we are experiencing a re-enactment of something that activates a core belief about ourselves, others or the world that was formed in childhood.

Some examples of this might be: feeling unheard, unseen, unimportant or imperfect. Or feeling that others can’t be trusted, no one will help you, or that it’s not safe to express emotions.

Becoming aware of your core beliefs can be a huge first step to healing and provides an opportunity to make more intentional choices in our communications and relationships. 🤍✨🦋

One of the fastest and easiest ways to release stress and feel better quickly is to tap on a series of acupressure points in the body, also known as meridians.

Because being upset causes disruptions in the energy flow of the meridians, tapping works by clearing energy flow blockages and restoring a feeling of calm and balance to the system.

This simple, body-based technique allows your body to relax, rebalance and be present in the here and now.

✨ How often do you say “YES” when you really mean “NO”? ✨

If this resonates with you, then “people pleasing” might be an issue for you.

The problem with people pleasing is that when we engage in this dynamic, we perceive that all of our personal power is located outside of ourselves, assigning it to another, or many others.

We calibrate our sense of accomplishment, or even worthiness, based on the opinions or approval of others, which are ultimately never about us anyway!

It’s no surprise then that we feel powerless, not in control, anxious and eventually resentful.

So check in with yourself before taking on additional commitments, doing what’s “expected,” what’s “the right thing to do,” or anything that you’re saying YES to from a sense of duty or obligation vs a true desire.

Remember, it’s OK to say NO. 💛
