Shavonne has experienced symptoms of mental illness since her early childhood. After her boyfriend passed away, she found herself suddenly experiencing homelessness which amplified her mental health problems. For several years she was caught in a cycle of hospitalization, medication, and housing sites she never felt safe in. Things shifted when she saw a flyer for Alcott and decided to reach out. From her very first therapist, she felt things begin to shift for her, and she’s kept up with treatment ever since.

“I never thought I would be just regular. I like being just regular, though. It’s better than people calling you crazy or violent or something. So, I’m just regular now and I’m grateful for everything I have... I’ve been doing good ever since. I’ve been happy with my life because of Alcott.”

You can support Shavonne and community members just like her by purchasing a ticket for Botanical Brunch at the link in our bio.

Most people in the U.S. don’t itemize their taxes and instead take the standard deduction. In the past, this meant that donating to charity carried zero tax incentives for the majority of citizens. In 2026 however, this has changed. Non-itemizers (probably you!) can access income tax deductions for charitable gifts up to $1,000 (or $2,000 if filing jointly) on top of the standard deduction.* By signing up to be a monthly donor today, your generosity may come right back to you next year! See the link in our bio for more info or to sign up!
