We need to spread the word about what speech pathology is and whom we support.

May is National Speech Language Hearing Month and May 18 is Speech Language Pathology Day. Today we honor the crucial work of SLPs and SLPAs across the globe. Our field is still unknown to many, which makes accessing crucial services even harder for patients, students, clients, and families. Feel free to share slides from this post to help us explain our scope to the public so that we can increase access and awareness about what we do, who we are, and whom we get the opportunity to help.

Go ahead and ask questions in the comments if you have any so that others who might also have questions can see the responses.

It is an honor to be an SLP and to run a program that employs other SLPs and SLPAs who share a mission and vision of expanding culturally and linguistically affirming speech and language services to our communities in LA, California, and the world at large. ✌️

And congratulations to Andrea, Emely, and Carmen, our fabulous team members who helped him meet his goals over the past year and a half. Great work!

California Speech Language Hearing Association 2025 Convention Wrap Up

I attended as:
• An SLP supporting children and families in SoCal
• An SLPA Supervisor supporting my amazing team
• CSHA's Vice President of Membership & Outreach
• A presenter, training clinicians across the state
• Past chair of the Early Intervention Committee
• A colleague and friend to so many great folx!

The last few months have been super challenging, but participating in our state professional organization has brought so much meaning and purpose to me in all of these roles. It makes me a better clinician, supervisor, leader, presenter, advocate, colleague, and friend.

I hope everyone also had as wonderful a time as I did, I can't wait to keep expanding our reach and making our field more inclusive, accessible, equitable, diverse, and supportive. Much love to all! 💙🩵💛 Kelly

We are LA raised locals, supporting our communities. Please contact us if you'd like to donate.

Hola Clinic is open this week for all speech therapy sessions and evaluations, we briefly closed Thursday evening and all day Friday due to the fires. We are devastated by the loss so many in our city have endured and hope these donations can help give back in some capacity.

Families, please let us know if you would like to switch to teletherapy next week. We will be emailing all of you, you can respond to the email or call us at (818) 239-4949. We know some of you have had to evacuate, your safety is paramount to us and we hope you stay safe. Those of you who feel inclined may bring items for donation at your discretion.

All donations will be dropped off to North Valley Caring Food Pantry this Friday. They are a local non-profit and have been identified by Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez as a donation site. Together, we will rise. Be safe, LA.

2024 was a great year at Hola Clinic! Thank you to everyone who chose us as the team to support your loved ones' communication and swallowing needs. 🫶

Also, massive gratitude to our amazing crew who helped us make this happen! Our families know and love working with each of you, and it's truly an honor to help lead this wonderful team.👩🏻‍🤝‍👩🏼👩🏽‍🤝‍👩🏻👩🏾‍🤝‍👩🏼

We are all a community, and it has been such a pleasure getting the opportunity to help children and families in the San Fernando Valley, Antelope Valley, Santa Clarita Valley, and Los Angeles communities where we all grew up to relate, communicate, and safely swallow. I am excited to share that I was nominated for a 2024 Inspirational Women Leadership Award!

I'm proud of the work we are doing at Hola Clinic for our bilingual children and families in Los Angeles, and I want to bring more awareness to the greater public about the importance of culturally and linguistically affirming speech and language therapy. We need more bilingual/bicultural clinicians who look, sound, and feel like our communities across the region. Communication is connection, our multilingual clinicians help bridge the gap that many children and families feel while participating in treatment for speech and language challenges.

I also appreciate the opportunities I've had to train clinicians across the state on how to provide culturally and linguistically affirming speech and language assessments and treatment regardless of our own backgrounds. It is the responsibility of EVERY clinician to provide culturally and linguistically affirming services, not just the responsibility of bilingual/bicultural clinicians. Many wonderful districts and organizations across the state of California have welcome me with open arms and excitedly learned strategies to support their students, clients, and patients who communicate in languages that many times vary from their own. Thank you for helping to improve our practices!

I am honored to be a nominee for an award and hope to learn even more about how to best lead our crew from this forum.
