Dentistry can create a foundation so that our teeth have the opportunity to form properly without protruding our becoming crowded-consequences that impede the proper support and development of the jaws and may lead to a lifetime of headache pain, among other issues.
When we grind or clench our teeth, we may wear through our enamel, exposing softer tooth structure called dentin. Fracture lines in the enamel may also be created. When the enamel begins to chip and the dentin erodes, the teeth begin to break and fatten. If this occurs on the front teeth, we can wear away so much enamel that our teeth are no longer parallel to our lips, resulting in a "negative smile". Our back teeth will also no longer fit the same way, as we've altered the original anatomy. What once resembled hills and valleys can become flattened or hollowed out surfaces.
A misalignment of muscle tension or stress can onset grinding and clenching into motion, especially during sleep. The gnashing sets off a constant spasm of muscles in the jaws, which can lead to severe tension headaches. Just as yoga makes sure of the radiating effects of small movements, even small realignments of the bite can have a dramatic impact on our health.
