Research shows that gratitude can lead to greater happiness, better overall mood and even improved physical well-being. Gratitude means “thinking about and being thankful for experiences or qualities in ourselves, other people or the world.” When we focus on the good and what we are grateful for, it can enhance our positive core beliefs and shift our overall mindset. Gratitude also means accepting the negative aspects and being able to look beyond them.

It is helpful to keep a gratitude journal. Schedule a time during the day (perhaps at night when you can reflect on your day) and write down a few things you are grateful for. Whether it’s about yourself, others or the world.

With Valentine’s Day approaching, what better way to show your partner how much you care by working on your communication and enhancing your emotional and physical intimacy. Take the time to get to know your partner better. Ask each other questions. Spark a conversation. Take some time for each other to connect, by putting down your phones and turning off the T.V. Here are some ways to enhance your relationship and communication:

Discuss sexual intimacy with your partner and understand each other’s likes and dislikes.

Engage in relationship building by answering questions together, such as, “we would like to visit” and “three goals for the future.”

Identify and discuss your love languages with each other, and what you need from your partner.

Experiencing Anxiety or Stress? Do you identify with any of these symptoms? There are many signs of anxiety and stress to pay attention to such as somatic symptoms, changes in your behavior or emotions, as well as cognitive changes. We all need a certain amount of anxiety and stress to function; however, it is when that anxiety and stress becomes abnormal and too intense that it begins to hinder our lives and alters both our mind and body. Self Care is so important. Especially during these times. We often forget to put ourselves first or set aside time to decompress and relax. Being overly consumed with work, getting things done or taking care of others can lead to burn out or even depression or anxiety. It’s important to have balance and to take the time to engage in activities that are good for your soul and body. Take a look at some self care ideas and try to incorporate at least one each day.

Remember to be kind to yourself. We often beat ourselves up rather than being compassionate towards ourselves. Wake up each morning and say something positive and inspiring to remind yourself just how amazing you are. Take each day one at a time and don’t get mad at yourself if you cannot do everything you initially intended.
