You’ve heard about all of the anti-aging effects of retinol/retinoids and about how it is used as an acne treatment. But how do you use retinol or retinoid in your skincare routine? Here are some tips for introducing it into your routine
Retinol or a retinoid can help:
✅PREVENT wrinkles
✅lighten hyperpigmentation
✅PROMOTE collagen production
✅improve fine lines
✅with skin texture
✅with uneven skin tone
✅increase cell turnover
❗️START SLOW at first, 1-2 times a week for 2 weeks then slowly increase to every other night then eventually every night if tolerated. Increasing too quickly can lead to side effects of dryness, redness, and irritation
❗️ Only a pea-sized amount over the entire face
❗️ Use only at night
❗️ Moisturize afterwards to prevent dryness and irritation. If experiencing too much dryness and irritation, a “sandwich” technique of moisturizing first, then applying retinol/retinoid, then moisturize again- this can help in the beginning!
❗️Must wear sunscreen during the day! The skin becomes more sensitive to the sun. Without sunscreen, the skin is more likely to burn.
❗️Avoid during pregnancy!
I follow these steps even when introducing a higher strength of retinoid in my routine. Comment below if you’re using a retinol/retinoid 💕 not medical advice always ask your derm!
