Postoperative ischemic stroke is a rare but major complication associated with significant morbidity, mortality, and prolonged hospitalization. Its reported incidence varies widely depending on the type of surgery and patient population, ranging from less than 0.1% after low-risk noncardiac procedures to more than 5% in selected high-risk cardiac and vascular surgeries.
