Respect is a two-way street: if we want to receive it, we must first offer it. If you are an Aleyo, Iyawo or new Olorisha and want your elders and the community to respect you, start by respecting your own rank within community. Comply with the rules of our Faith, be humble and always polite. Ask for the blessing of other initiates older than you.
Always remember that being Olorisha is SERVING more than being served. We are servants of the Osha, and we are not the Orishas on earth. Nowadays people turn their noses away from helping and getting dirty in Ceremony. Helping and working in ceremony brings Ire. Healthy advice to reflect and apply!
I learned the old school way that at least ONCE A WEEK I went to my madrinas house to say hello, to help out and work long hours without being asked, to have a coffee and tell her how things were, just to hang out and then go home, with the biggest gift, which was the blessing of my godmother, and with that one felt strengthened, with strength, with the ashe.
Nowadays instead of asking the godparent for advice, they grab and publish on TikTok or Instagram nonsense. Or househopping. Or do an Ebbo they see Online. I think that is a huge disrespect-or questioning the godparents word and saying they told me this or such a thing that is like that or not? Doubting the godparents.
I don’t want Godchildren like that, I’m not interested, maybe that’s why I’m not famous like people think I am lol, but I’m not interested, I DON’T cheat, I don’t scam, NOR give false hopes and expectations to anyone I limit myself to the word of OCHUN & ORULA.
