Four hours.
One room full of dentists.
And one powerful conversation about resilience.

Thank you to the Hawaiian Dental Forum for inviting me to speak on The Resilient Dentist: Unlocking Success with Wellness. What a gift it is to stand before colleagues and share something that has completely reshaped my life, leadership, and approach to dentistry.

A special thank you to .susanmcmahon McMahon for promoting me and my work — and for the way she consistently champions women in dentistry. Your generosity and belief in others create ripple effects you may not even see. I am so grateful for you.

By the grace of God, we missed the tumultuous weather surrounding the storm and were gifted the most glorious stretch of days.

Sunlight.
Ocean air.
Rainbows.
Perspective.

I had the joy of meeting a fellow MDIB in person (there is something sacred about finally hugging someone you’ve only known through a screen).

I watched whales breaching — which never, ever gets old. It feels like the ocean reminding you that something bigger is always at work, even if you can’t always see it.

We celebrated with a mai tai and a swim at my favorite beach in the world — Kaanapali. And made a special trip to Kapalua for my favorite poké bowl.

So much to be thankful for.
The calling.
The colleagues.
The courage it takes to evolve.

Grateful beyond words. 🌺

There’s a myth about meditation that it’s about “Zenning out”—
blank mind, no thoughts, no identity.

That’s not meditation. That’s more like being numbed out. 😄

Meditation doesn’t erase who you are.
It helps you notice who’s actually running the show.

Your thoughts under pressure.
Your body signals between patients.
The patterns that kick in when the schedule blows up.

Think of it like dentistry:
you don’t start treatment without diagnostics.

Meditation is the operatory light for your inner world—
not fixing anything yet, just seeing clearly enough to work wisely.

And that’s where real change begins.

Meditation isn’t about disappearing.
It’s about paying attention—on purpose.

If you want a way to start that doesn’t feel awkward or abstract,
I’ve created a free Spotify playlist: Guided Meditations for Dentists.

Simple. Guided. No chanting required. 😄

👉 Comment or DM “medlist” and I’ll send it your way.

Thanks to yoga, I gently stretch to conclusions instead of jumping to them.

Algorithms want us to scroll fast, react faster, and leap to judgment without thinking.

Yoga taught me the opposite—pause, breathe, move intentionally.

🧘‍♀️ Because not every headline (or comment) deserves a jump.

There’s often a big difference between what was actually said… and what someone says was said.

And figuring out which is which takes patience, not speed.

What helps you slow down before reacting?

Imagine replacing even half your scrolling with reading that actually supports your life and work.

Inside Yoga for Dentists, we curate and share recommended reading across topics that matter to dentists—wellness, leadership, boundaries, money, mindset, and sustainable success.

Books that help you think more clearly, lead more intentionally, and stay well in a demanding profession.

📖 Reading as a form of self-care.

One breath. Before the yes.
Before the explanation.
Before the reaction.

That breath
is the boundary.

The space between
stimulus and response—

where dentists stop over-explaining,
release people-pleasing,
and lead without reactivity.

Not a wall.

A blessing.

🦷 February 7 = Send a Card to a Friend Day

Dentistry trains us to be precise, efficient, and productive.

It does not train us to pause…
reach out…
or nurture the relationships that quietly keep us sane.

So here’s your gentle nudge today:

✉️ Send a card.
Not an email. Not a text.
A real, old-school, mailbox-surprise card.

To a friend who’s supported you
To a colleague who gets it
To someone who’s held space for you during a hard season

Think of it as preventative care for your nervous system.
Low effort. High impact. Long-term benefits. 😉

And no—it doesn’t need to be eloquent.
“Thinking of you” is enough.

💬 Tell me: who comes to mind when you read this?

As dentists, we’re scientists at heart.
We’re trained to analyze, diagnose, and problem-solve.

So when something hurts, habit kicks in.
We think our way around it.
Cover it.
And strategize how to never feel that way again.

It keeps us functional.
It keeps us protected.
And it often keeps us stuck.

Living with intention starts when we notice that reflex…
and choose something different.

Because some things don’t need fixing.
They need feeling.

There’s no substitute for giving a wound air.
For letting yourself say — without judgment or self-pity:
Ouch.

That pause?
That’s intention.
And that’s where real healing begins.

Your mind isn’t a machine.
It’s not meant to stay “on” all the time.

Rest isn’t laziness.
It’s maintenance. 🦷✨

What actually helps your mind rest?

In dentistry, experience sharpens judgment.

The same is true with money.

Over time, many dentists realize that financial stress isn’t just about income—it’s about awareness, habits, and unexamined assumptions.

When those shift, options open.

This carousel reflects the collective wisdom of lived experience—and an invitation to explore financial wellness with more clarity and intention.

Workshop details are included in the final slide.

💸 A quiet question for you… about your financial wellness.

Have you ever thought:
“I really should look at what I’m paying for every month…”
…and then promptly did not?

Same.

Most financial stress doesn’t come from big purchases.

It comes from small, recurring charges we stopped noticing—especially when life and practice are busy.

So I created something simple:
✨ The Subscription Audit
15 Monthly Charges Draining Dentists’ Money & Mental Space

This isn’t about budgeting or cutting everything back.

It’s about awareness, choice, and reclaiming a little breathing room.

🦷 It covers:
Personal subscriptions
Practice-related software & services
The sneaky “we added this years ago” stuff
⏱️ Takes about 10–15 minutes to scan through. Delegate where you can to get more info on an item...

😌 Zero shame. Zero pressure to cancel anything.

👇🏻 Grab it here

Because financial wellness isn’t about spending less.
It’s about spending on purpose.
👑

Discover 15 monthly subscriptions that may be draining dentists’ money and mental space. A free, quick audit to support financial wellness and clarity.
