What are your favorite Yamas and Niyamas?
I spend quite a good time taking care of the cleanliness of my environment, the house where I live and the place where I practice.
It feels like energetically clearing all other areas of my life 🧹 🧹 🧹

Shaucha or Sauca is one of my favorite Niyamas, it means purity, order and clearness. It refers to the purity of mind, body and speech, but to the environment around us as well.

I personally feel more relaxed and energized when the house is clean and organized and I enjoy cleaning it, not only because I know I will feel better afterwards, but the process of cleaning itself feels like a meditation.

In the body Sauca means to cultivate physical exercise and breathing techniques, eat fresh and clean food, so to avoid the building of toxins in our bodies.

For the mind we practice it by avoiding negative thoughts, having clear intentions and mindfulness to keep our mind pure.

For the speech it means to speak with clarity, honesty and care...
..we are what we speak, what we think, what we eat...

It is important that all of these things are done with attention, consciousness and knowledge.
It requires effort, training and discipline, of course, but many are the benefits for our inner peace, balance, empowerment, personal growth and flourishing 🌷

In nature I always felt protected at night and slept in a sort of maternal embrace, I always felt surrounded by peace and felt a sense of wholeness and union, sleeping under the stars in the rain forest or by the ocean, cuddled by the sound of it.

I never, not even for one second, have felt unprotected in those places.
Strange...sleeping unguarded by the usual walls, no roof above your head and yet feeling less in danger than ever.

I can never live without wilderness. I can enjoy the city, but into the wild is the true connection for me.

What is your experience? Do you also feel affected by your environment? Do you feel protected in the wild? Feel you belong to it? šŸ…šŸ…šŸ…

Bakasana:
Have faith in the air and become lighter, push down to lift yourself up!

You need a strong foundation, strong shoulders and arms, a strong core and flexible hips.
You will need to overcome the fear of falling on your face and you will learn how to focus not to lose the balance.
Eventually your body will feel lighter and you will be able to keep the pose for a longer time.

We all are strong because we have been weak, we all are fearless because we have been afraid.

GRACE

Courage is grace under pressure.
(Ernest Hemingway)

What is grace?
I think it’s s a quality of the heart that, balanced with courage, creates beauty and harmony in life.

On a physical level, this translates as flexibility and strength, as they help each other to obtain harmony in the body.

Strength makes us able to react to a given pressure and support it, flexibility gives us the ability to surrender and let go the pressure.

The harmony is created by balancing these qualities of tension and release that coexist in the body.

This is a fundamental concept, that the body teaches very clearly: the importance of balancing action with surrender.

I can never stop appreciating how much we learn from movement, how outer and inner energies are always interlaced and connected.

Strength is generally thought as a masculine quality and, maybe, less evident under the gracefulness of a woman’s body or the delicacy of her moves.

Nevertheless it is there, in the same way as a woman’s strength exists behind the kindness of her heart and together with it.

The body, again, proves how those are stereotypes and preconceptions, that have nothing to do with the truth.

Too often it is underestimated how much strength a woman is capable of.

Being kind or graceful doesn’t mean at all to be fragile, there’s more strength than ever behind and act of kindness, as well as behind a graceful movement.

So, never apologize for the kindness of your heart as you wouldn’t apologize for your grace šŸ™šŸ¼

COURAGE: from the Latin ā€œcorā€= heart ā¤ļø
It means to tell who you are with your whole heart.
No safety net, no guarantees.
It means to be vulnerable and it is not a weakness, it is your greater beauty and it is where all possibility and creativity starts.

All yogis know that the control and the balance achieved in performing the asanas does not come from fighting or resisting, but from the very opposite.
You embrace, you connect with the breath and let the body surrender to change.
Surrender is what makes it possible and it is a key concept to understand the process.

It is necessary to be vulnerable in order to create possibility.
If we don’t show who we truly are, if we don’t embrace our imperfection, we cannot connect.
As performers as well, as artists, you know you have to be seen in order to connect to the public.
All kind of connection in life is about authenticity.

Most people believe that being in control is a better strategy and they numb their emotions and feelings, thinking that being vulnerable is too much of a risk.

On the opposite, I believe that’s all that makes us human, beautiful and worthy of love.

It may feel like jumping off a cliff, but without trust, no change or connection is possible.

Thought of the day:
STRENGHT
What does it mean to be a coach?
As an aerialist I used to rely on my muscular strength.
As a yoga teacher I try to rely on my inner strength.
So, I asked myself this question recently:
if I am a teacher, does it mean that I am perfect, that I am always balanced and in control?
No. I am still human, I am still in a process of learning and becoming a better version of myself.
How do I inspire other people, then, if I am just a normal human being?
Do my students look at me as someone who never fails? In that case, it would be a heavy load to carry for me, as I am far from perfect.
I do also have my breaking points and I do lose my center at times.

I gave myself this answer: as a coach you try not to make excuses for your weaknesses and struggles, but you keep your faith steady and your heart strong, holding on even when things around you seem to crumble.
Martha Graham said the body never lies.
The air, the mat are my sacred space, that’s where I hold myself on, but also where I bring myself in.
Outside of it, it’s easy to be lost, but being strong means to embrace one’s fears as well as one’s courage.
That’s what I think strength means for me.
