“Ozempic personality” is trending. Here’s the nuance.
Patients on GLP-1s are reporting something unexpected: the food noise goes quiet, the cravings disappear - but so does some of the joy. Music hits different. Food doesn’t excite them. S*x feels flat.
Doctors are calling it anhedonia. The internet is calling it “Ozempic personality.”
GLP-1s are legitimate tools. A lot of functional practitioners use them, and they work. But these drugs affect dopamine. The same system driving your cravings is also driving your pleasure, motivation, and sense of aliveness. Dial one down and you may dial down the others.
This isn’t an argument against GLP-1s. It’s an argument for having a practitioner who’s actually paying attention - asking the questions that don’t show up on a standard follow-up, adjusting doses, tracking the full picture.
Losing weight and losing yourself are two very different outcomes.
