We love stories about how Surgery Prep can aid teams to support children before surgery like the following Meta review from the team at Children's Hospital Los Angeles: "I work at a hospital and provide VR to patients to give them fun activities to play with, and this game is a great learning experience. Many kids (obviously) are scared of the doctors when I comes to surgery, and many want a step by step explanation. This experience not only makes it very digestible for kids and very inviting, but it eases a lot of stress. One kid, who was going into surgery, only complained that you yourself cannot perform surgery on the narwhal-ha! I told them that thats a job for doctors only. Even with that, they were getting ready to go into surgery and didn't appear to look at surgery with a negative outlook. It's very easy to use and very replayable. Even if you've never used VR before, it's very simple to play. Totally recommend for anyone that has kiddos or patients who may be gearing up to go into surgery in the future." Excited to enter the new year with a publication in The Journal of Child Life to bring more visibility to the important role of child life specialists to support pediatric patients before surgery and the potential for Surgery Prep, our app, to assist.

By Jasen Liu, Tracy Reyes Serrano & 4 more. This study evaluates the feasibility and acceptability of "Surgery Prep," a gamified virtual reality (VR) app that features a perioperative walkthrough designed to help pediatric patients psychologically prepare for surgery.
