Urban renewal (aka Slum Clearance, neighborhood revitalization, urban redevelopment) initiatives began in the fifties and ran through the early seventies.

These city “upgrades” displaced families and made promises that they would be able to move back once the upgrades were done. Yet, a lot of times, this wasn’t the case.
