🍂 Welcoming the Autumn Equinox 🌞🌙

Today marks the autumn equinox, a moment of balance where day and night are nearly equal. Nature reminds us to pause, reflect, and realign.

On the trails, this shift is unmistakable: cooler mornings, golden light, and the quiet promise of change in every breeze. Just as the seasons transition, so do we. It’s a chance to shed what no longer serves us and step into new rhythms with clarity and intention.

For me, hiking has always been about more than physical movement. It’s about finding balance, strength, and perspective. This equinox is a perfect reminder that balance isn’t about standing still; it’s about moving forward with steadiness.

✨Adventure awaits this season. May your path be one of growth, grounding, and gratitude.

Sitting at 5,338 ft., Lawlor Saddle is peaceful, quiet, and awe-inspiring.

It’s also an excellent spot for high-altitude training—perfect prep for hikes like Mt. Waterman, Mt. Islip, or Sawmill Mountain.

Here’s the thing: altitude training is different from cardio training.

Even strong hikers and marathon runners—like Echo—can feel the effects if they’re not properly acclimated.

Some people are naturally more sensitive to elevation, and that’s totally normal. The key is to train smart and give your body time to adjust to higher altitudes.

And let’s not forget our dogs. They often handle elevation better than we do, but they burn more calories and need gradual conditioning too.

So if you’re dreaming of summits, start by hiking smart. 💪
Happy Hiking, friends! 🌿

The Griffith Park hike yesterday was full of surprises! 😄 Some trail sections were fenced off, so we had to make some last-minute detours and ended up adding an extra quarter mile. Everyone rolled with it like champs—including Coco and Gnocchi! 🐾🥾

This is why I always recommend packing more water and snacks than you think you’ll need. You never know what the trail might throw your way! 💧🍎

Our Story

Southern California's ultimate source for dog-friendly adventure guides and gear reviews.

Did you know that not all trails are dog-friendly? When you are hiking with a dog, it is not as simple as just pick a trail and go. You need to research beforehand to make sure your pup can join you. I create a comprehensive hiking guide with trail stats after each new hike so you can be prepared. Unless noted, you can be sure that all trail write-ups on our blog are dog-friendly. I share our adventure stories with quality photos. I hope you find the blog inspirational and motivational. Since you found our page, you must love dogs, outdoors and adventures as much as we do! And if you don’t, well, our photos might just convert you!

Hope our adventures inspire more people to get out and adventure with their pups and experience the joy of outdoors.
