Guided Access (or App Pinning for Android users) is a standard accessibility feature on many popular devices. It can be used to lock the device on a specific app, for a set time limit or until turned off with a passcode, as well as controlling buttons, keyboard and touch screen use📱👈

For individuals with reduced hand function or motor control, this can prevent frustrating unintentional touches or app changing. It can also support focus during learning and therapeutic activities, and ensure child safety during unsupervised play!

Have a game of Twister sitting in a cupboard at home?

Twister can be a fun and motivating way to encourage movement! You can adapt the ‘rules’ as needed to support different physical abilities or goals, but generally it can be a great activity to work on skills like:
- Balance and coordination
- Strength and endurance
- Motor planning and body awareness
- Social engagement and communication, by playing with a partner or group!

Visual Motor Integration (VMI) is the connection between what our eyes see and how our body moves. Our brain interprets the visual information we take in, and allows us to plan and execute accurate movements 👀🎯

Children with VMI difficulties can find activities that require coordinated or efficient movements very tricky, such as:
- Coloring and tracing
- Copying shapes, letters and numbers
- Balls skills and sports
-Using cutlery
- Dressing, especially fasteners like buttons and laces
- Learning new movements for transitions and mobility
- Navigating obstacles in their environment safely

OT and PT can support with addressing these difficulties, and help to promote independence and confidence within daily activities!
