With every birth I attend and each family I support, I learn a new lesson. I’ll never forget this message I got from a birth partner as I dashed through rush hour traffic to get to their home. He was so protective of his wife’s peace and birth space and this little reminder to ground myself as I arrived in it was the exact thing I needed to hear. They worked together with such patience and resolve and it ended up being one of the most empowering births l’ve witnessed! How is this my job?! 🥰

I had the most soul-nourishing weekend with some amazing birth workers for ’s Crossing the Threshold retreat. As I returned to LA and immediately jumped into supporting a birth, I felt myself re-enter the labyrinth with new purpose and perspective 🌀🌀🌀

It took almost two years, but I finally completed my lifetime certification to be a birth doula! Training with Carriage House Birth and being part of their community has enriched my practice in so many ways. I can’t wait to see where this path takes me next ✨

I made some postpartum muffins for a client today, and every time I make these muffins I get a little sentimental. I got the recipe from a dear friend who always makes these for new parents in her life, and over the years I’ve started making them for new parents in my circle too. Aren’t the best recipes the ones that get passed around between loved ones, changing a little with each passed hand? To me, they embody the spirit of village and community, something that is so precious and necessary in the postpartum period.

These little treats are perfect for sleepy mornings, middle of the night snacks, or midday pick-me-ups. They contain oats and flaxseed, known galactogogues (foods that support milk production), freeze and thaw easily, and can be made to be gluten- and dairy-free. You can use any fruit in them, but I like diced apples, especially at the beginning of autumn.
