In honor of Black History Month, we will be featuring stories of Black Health Workers at Watts Healthcare Corporation. Our questions will spotlight why and how we want to change healthcare.

Meet Lynn Dewgarde, MD who is the health center’s Chief Physician for Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine. Dr. Dewgarde has been with Watts Healthcare for 30 years and she shares her hopes for the future of Pediatric and Adolescent Health.

“My hope is for the understanding that we have to take a more holistic approach to care, and that we literally view the child as mind, body, soul and family. And if we do provide wrap around services, it includes ensuring that the basic needs are met, that we talk about a hierarchy of needs. If we do not meet a child’s basic needs we cannot get to higher needs on the hierarchy, which is what they will need to fulfill their potential. A child’s potential cannot be met unless they are physically well, mentally well, and those around them are also well”.
