Across a string of stellar records for and others, the Oakland-via-Ohio guitarist and songwriter has unfurled a world of spectral, shadowy beauty. Classically trained with an ear for experimentation, Maria taps a deep well of feeling on their latest LP, Marathon, setting delicate vocals against distorted guitar, prickly electronics, and industrial clatter. It’s music that doesn’t run from darkness — environmental ruin, loss — instead offering its own tender glow to commune around.

In SF, Maria opens with guitar, voice, and electronics. Alexis follows with a very special, solo ambient set. All under a wash of projection-mapped light. Link in bio for tickets 🔗

𝘓𝘖𝘚 𝘈𝘕𝘎𝘌𝘓𝘌𝘚 〰 Loving this 1994 press photo of 𝗦𝗨𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗗 𝗠𝗘𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗦, the ambient supergroup featuring Steve Roach (), Suso Sáiz (), and the late Jorge Reyes. 

Their astonishing, mystical sound was no accident. From Reyes’ explorations of pre-Colombian musical traditions, to Sáiz’s shoegaze cloud guitar, to Roach’s synths and wind instruments, the trio’s Fourth World project syncretized their personal narratives into a singular flow. From their Earth Island LP (1994) liner notes on Hearts of Space Records: “For Roach, Reyes and Sáiz, there were no boundaries, only waves of sound splashing against the big island we call earth, washing relics from some distant clan onto new shores, eroding the conventions of the present and carrying the remains out to sea.”

On Saturday, June 6, 𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗩𝗘 𝗥𝗢𝗔𝗖𝗛 joins Reflections LA for a very special night at Immanuel Presbyterian Church. He’ll lead us on a 2-hour deep dive into dreamtime and beyond, immersed in textured light.

Happy birthday to Age of Reflections! 🪅 Three years of sound. Three years of light. Three years of architecture, space, and community.

We launched our first event on March 25, 2023, presenting Ben Neill () with engineer Eric Calvi and opener Gavilán Rayna Russom at the Church of the Heavenly Rest cathedral in NYC’s Upper East Side. Eric Epstein was our visual artist. It was a hazy, auspicious night, with composers David Behrman and Nick Hallett in attendance, along with several kindred spirits from the NYC scene. Consciousness, community, and creativity were centered from that first evening. More than a series, Reflections is an alignment of beings. A ceremonial embrace. A party for the heart and the soul.

Extra thanks go to Noah Klein () of Living Earth, the artists we’ve collaborated with, and the giants on whose shoulders we stand. Thanks to all of you for your patience and faith. Here’s to the future xoxo

Miller’s first record as Resavoir, released by International Anthem () in 2019, became a favorite across scenes and subgenres, a richly textured, resplendent blend of ambient and soul-jazz. As a trusted session player for everyone from SZA to Whitney, Miller found a space all his own, collaging layer after layer of lush string arrangements, subtle electronics, and his own swirling, Hassell-esque melodies on trumpet guiding the way.

With Themes For Dreams, Resavoir opens a portal into yet another world. Serene, meditative, drumless — it’s a gentle invitation to be swept away, with added color from collaborators like Marta Sofia Honer and Jeremiah Chiu. A suite designed for dreamtime, it’s set in soft focus, but full of idiosyncratic detail, revealing new secrets on each listen. In Chicago, Miller and friends reinterpret songs from the album live, with an opening set of dreamy ambient guitar from .

With those nights on the horizon, we take a look back at where it all started for Steve, with 𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗟𝗗𝗦. Together, the Cleveland-based trio of Hauschildt, John Elliott, and guitarist Mark McGuire spent the late aughts releasing a staggering volume of music — at least a few dozen releases on CDr and cassette — channeling a deep connection to kosmische gods like Tangerine Dream and Cluster into their own sprawling, mind-melting canvases.

2010’s Does It Look Like I’m Here still towers, a monumental set that expanded their shimmery drone to celestial proportions. Per Pitchfork, in a Best New Music review of its remaster: “Thirteen years later, each recording sounds as alive and teeming with secrets as ever.” No accident that phrases like “religious dedication to craft” and “spiritual ecstasy” crop up in that same review. It’s the kind of music that inspires real reverence.

As co-founder of legendary ambient trio Emeralds, Steve Hauschildt has forged a solo career full of gorgeous, pulsing sound grids. Opening artist Kara-Lis Coverdale explores numinous sound worlds ― evolving, dynamic, and devastatingly beautiful. We’ll present them with a radiant light show by Zach Lieberman, projected-mapped to the church architecture.

Since relocating from Baltimore five years ago, the Nigerian-born producer Collins Oboh has been blessing Los Angeles and beyond with a modular magic all his own. Sometimes that means delicate, searching reveries. Elsewhere, waves of synth meet kinetic, clattering drum machine, warm vocals, or live instrumentation. Colloboh’s practice in L.A. started in the orbit of , expanding in recent years to include scoring for film, touring globally, and organizing multidisciplinary, ensemble performances at architectural landmarks like the Getty Center and the Hollyhock House. We’ll welcome Collins back to Reflections this week — a sweet reunion for us, since he opened one of our earliest shows, alongside the legendary Suzanne Ciani.
