I feel this so much.
Last year I wrote a romance novel with a plus size character and a fatter friend (who I hope will get her own book in the near future). I'm beginning the yucky work of searching for an agent and I'm dreading the fatphobia I know I'll probably encounter. But I wish I'd read more fat, awesome characters in books when I was young so it feels important to pursue it now.
(PS - I first heard of the writer of this article on Virginia Sole-Smith's Burnt Toast podcast and I can't wait to read Housemates!)
Why does fiction do such a bad job of portraying fat characters?
