April 22, 2025, is the 55th Earth Day since the first one was celebrated on April 22, 1970. That day I remember well. It was the first time I ever created a sign, Stop Pollution. Yes, Earth Day was originally created to raise awareness about environmental issues plus encourage action to protect the planet.

Those actions really have not worked in all cases to protect the planet, but my sign was about sewer flow into rivers. That was stopped. Many chronic toxins are affecting each living thing on the planet, like endocrine disruptors and microplastics.

We must remember the past and learn from it so we don’t make the same mistakes again. The EPA is our protection against the worst of the insults to human and earth health. Now, even its history is being eliminated. The list of terribles grows daily, but if each of us keeps records. Those records can not all be eliminated.

Unite with your neighbors, plant and harvest seeds, pick up litter, reduce, rethink, and connect with the world around you.
