Breathing Exercises for All Ages 👧 👨 👩 🧒
Try these family-friendly breathing techniques anytime you need a reset:
1. Rainbow Breaths (Ages 2+) 🌈
Stretch your arms in an arc like a rainbow while you breathe in, and lower them as you breathe out. Add colors as you go:
"Breathe in red, out red... Breathe in orange..."
2. 5-Finger Breathing (Ages 4+) 🖐️
Trace one hand with the opposite index finger. Breathe in as you trace up a finger, out as you trace down. It's tactile and calming-great in the car, at the store, or before bed.
3. Box Breathing (Ages 6+ and Adults) 🟨
Breathe in for 4 counts → Hold for 4 →
Breathe out for 4 → Hold for 4. Repeat 4 times. You can draw a square in the air with your finger to guide your breath.
4. Smell the Flower, Blow the Candle (All Ages) 🌺 🕯️
A classic for a reason! Pretend to smell a flower deeply (inhale) and gently blow out a candle (exhale). Make it playful by miming your favorite scents or funny candle shapes.
Breathe in… and out. You’ve got this. 💛
