Amy helps to empower people to Self-Regulate. Creating healthy nervous systems allowing for resilient minds and bodies. Helping people function better under stress or anxiety. Somatic Experiencing was founded by Peter Levine, Phd. "Trauma" is not an event but the energy that remains in the system, often caused by the freeze, fight or flight response. Anything perceived as a threat weather conscious or not will create a stress-response in our physiology. Often times it is not conscious and the result is chronic neck & shoulder tension, irritable bowel and sleep issues (as an example)
Often times, simply orienting to the environment through your senses will communicate the hind brain (the animal or instinctive response), that it's safe, allowing for the ease back into a relaxation response. Ultimately releasing tense muscles, ones that have been "ready" for protective action and stuck or locked in a chronic tension pattern. When there are incomplete protective responses the nervous system will remain engaged (activated) and "ready" keeping muscles tense causing pain and even disease. The most common response from clients is "WOW I feel like I just had a massage" and I may not have even touched them. Completing impulses allows the nervous system to deactivate and increase one's capacity for resiliency in the face of stress before it becomes anxiety. This work allows one to use their life energy to be fully engaged in life and to BE. Instead of having 60 or 80% of your life force energy being used for survival (in freeze, flight or fight) you now can engage fully in life!
