The center’s faculty have successfully treated thousands of acoustic-neuroma patients, maintaining and improving the quality of their lives, with an emphasis on preservation of facial function and hearing. Our highly skilled and experienced professionals are dedicated to providing patients with the most effective, up-to-date, and compassionate care for acoustic neuroma, beginning at the initial consultation and extending long after care has been given. the center’s multidisciplinary team includes physicians and surgeons from numerous specialties, nurses, rehabilitation specialists and forward-thinking researchers. At the center’s modern facility, we tailor care to each patient’s condition. This includes “watch-and-wait” and non-invasive radiosurgery, which delivers precise beams of radiation to the tumor, while preserving healthy tissue. When the team recommends surgical removal as the best option, we are one of the few centers to offer the full range of current microsurgical procedures. The team focuses on giving each patient a seamless, supportive experience, from assessment and pre-treatment care through treatment and long-term care and follow-up. In the process, we maintain ongoing communication with patients and their primary care doctors, and coordinate appropriate post-treatment care. In short, we help patients to feel secure at every stage of their care.

Acoustic Neuroma patients have a lot to think about when receiving a diagnosis. The best option for treatment is not always a clear choice. Patients should discuss the risk and benefits of treatment options with their provider.

IT’S BEEN 30 YEARS❗❗❗
Dawn was diagnosed with a 3 cm Acoustic Neuroma in January 1990 and had a Translabyrinthine Craniotomy on 2/28/90. Dawn Fishback Neurosurgery PA from our team shares her story and some advise. 💪😁🏅🏆
Dawn says
" It’s been 30 years and I remember that day like it was yesterday.
Living with the deficits, and after effects, of having had an AN and surgery all these years later, I’ve come to appreciate the importance of having to go that extra mile to care for yourself during the aging process. If I were to offer any advice to my fellow AN Survivors it would be two-fold:
1. Do everything in your power to protect what hearing if you are left with. I have a Westone Custom Ear Plug that I wear in my hearing ear anytime I am around loud noises (Firework shows, concerts, etc.)
2. Be sure to stay in shape as you grow older. As you age, it is so much more difficult to stay physically fit! Over this last Christmas holiday, I didn’t exercise much, and then came down with the flu. It was amazing how much muscle mass, strength and endurance I lost over such a short period of time! My legs had a difficult time maintaining what balance I have, and I was much less steady. Since my surgery, I feel my balance is my vulnerability, and I am not as stable, especially if my legs are not strong. After the new year I got back on track with regular exercise and feel fantastic! That experience was a real wake up call for me that at my age, I can’t afford to slack off.
Bottom line….keep moving, exercise often, stay strong, eat well, get adequate sleep, stay positive and take care of yourself!!"
Thank you Dawn for those words of wisdom!!!

An Acoustic Neuroma patient should consult with a Neurotologist and/or Neurosurgeon for an evaluation and treatment plan. Acoustic Neuroma patients present in many different ways. Some patients have hearing loss, others vertigo or facial numbness. An MRI with and without gadolinium contrast will show the size and location of a tumor. An audiogram and full examination will help determine what options a patient may have for treatment.
