Adults with serious mental health challenges often experience the world through a sensory lens that is very different from neurotypical adults. Difficulties with sensory processing can impact emotion regulation, daily functioning, interpersonal relationships, and engagement in treatment.

In this in-house CE presentation, PCH occupational therapist Olivia Levy, OTR/L provide an overview of sensory processing in adulthood, explore how sensory modulation difficulties show up in serious mental illness, and introduce practical, trauma-informed strategies that clinicians can incorporate into their work. The session will integrate case examples from the PCH setting and offer concrete tools that providers can use immediately to support regulation, participation, and safety.

💛 Service
True social justice manifests through action. Our community service programs engage clients and staff in meaningful work, emphasizing impact over intention and contribution over conversation.

🎃PCH had a spooktacular Halloween as our Pasadena and West Los Angeles Campuses came together for a festive celebration, bake sale and bake off in support of our Social Justice Committee.

The event was filled with creativity, community spirit, and plenty of sweet treats! 🍪🧁

A special congratulations to Dee Lowe, Director of Admissions, who took home first place in our Bake-Off Competition.

Proceeds will be donated to our social justice committee and used for hygiene packages for our unhoused community.

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this year’s Halloween celebration such a frightfully fun success! 👻🎉

YATA Conference Recap 🌟
From October 7–10, the Young Adult Transition Association (YATA) Conference in San Diego brought together leaders and innovators in the field of young adult mental health and transitional care.

PCH Treatment Center was proud to co-host a Mix & Mingle event with our colleagues from Galen Hope, Ellenhorn, and Koplin Consulting, fostering meaningful connection and collaboration within our community.

A highlight of the conference was Jeff Ball, PhD’s powerful presentation,
“Beyond the Clinical Gaze: Reclaiming Relationship and Context in Mental Health Care,” which invited us to re-examine the medical model and re-center the human relationships at the heart of healing.

📣 Exciting Announcement! 📣

Join us at the YATA Conference for a thought-provoking session with Jeff Ball, PhD:

🗓 October 9th
⏰ 11:15 AM – 12:30 PM
📍 YATA Conference

Rethinking Mental Health
This talk challenges the dominance of the medical model in psychiatry and psychology, exploring how it reduces human suffering to diagnoses and brain chemistry. Dr. Ball will examine the enduring influence of the “clinical gaze” and the medical–pharmaceutical alliance, while making a powerful case for relational, contextual, and meaning-centered approaches to care.

Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of a conversation about shifting the paradigm of mental health treatment.
