Our mission is to fund research on the stuff I care about: regenerative technologies and improving outcomes after facial reconstructive surgery for our trans and gender diverse community and kids born with craniofacial differences. Some personal news. Before the pandemic, i was nominated for a cool award. And then the pandemic hit, 5 years fly by, and I frankly forgot about it. This week, I found out that I have been awarded the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers!

Thank you for this incredible honor. I will treasure this forever. Thank you for giving me my first grant and the nomination and for supporting all of our subsequent work through the years.

Regeneration will be a reality in our lifetimes.

I am thrilled to announce that Dr. Lee Weber will be our inaugural UCLA Facial Gender-Affirming Surgery Fellow!

Dr. Weber, originally from Orlando, Florida, completed his undergraduate and medical degrees at Florida State University in Tallahassee. He will be completing his plastic and reconstructive surgery residency at the University of Miami and Jackson Memorial Hospital. Beyond medicine, Lee enjoys traveling, vintage thrifting, gardening, and loves everything related to the kitchen.

Welcome to Los Angeles Lee! We are so excited that you’ll be joining us!!

The UCLA Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is delighted to offer a one-year fellowship focused on Facial Gender-Affirming Surgery. The fellowship is the first of its kind in the world and will primarily emphasize gender-affirming facial reconstruction encompassing an understanding of craniofacial surgical principles, skeletal relationships, orthognathic surgery, and facial aesthetic principles, but also include other anatomic areas of reconstruction. In addition to surgery, the vision of the fellowship is to generate leaders in gender-affirming care. As such, the fellowship includes time with gender health primary care physicians, endocrinology, behavioral health, and urology, as well as collaborative projects with the Williams Institute at the UCLA School of Law.

Requirements:
1. Successful completion of an ACGME accredited plastic and reconstructive surgery residency program.
2. Board eligible for the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
3. Eligible for a California Medical License.

About six years ago, we started the UCLA Facial Gender-Affirming Surgery program. The journey has been an incredible and magical time for me that has pushed my surgical creativity and given me the distinct privilege to contribute to the lives of so many. Every step of the way was only possible and awesome because I got to do it side by side with my amazing friend and collaborator !

Abie, our baby is all growns up!! Cheers to six years and a few hundred cases!
