Dearest Back Benders family.

Our beloved Mary Frances transitioned Monday 1/26/2026 at 1:21pm. So many of you got to know MF through massage at BB. She was a gifted masseuse, yoga instructor, sound practitioner and cranio sacral healer. She was also a dancer, artist, nature lover, sound healer, karma fairy, a perpetual mover, mother, sister, auntie, and wife. She was a wonderful friend to me and Back Benders. I met her when I took over the practice, in 2010. Back then she used to teach yoga in the center room when it was an empty space. When I brought in the Pilates reformers she joined the practice as a massage therapist.
To know MF was to love her. She always had a hello and smile and of course her effervescent positive energy to share. A true Leo, with so much energy. IFYKYK
MF was a supernova, illuminating every room she was in, leaving a trail of sparkles behind. Titus loved MF, she was a beautiful person, a force too great for this world. She lived and loved big. I am grateful to have known her and all her wonderful gifts.
May she rest in power. My deepest condolences go out to her husband and children and all her extended family. Knowing MF, she would want us to get out into nature and move so that’s what I’m going to do.

This my last full week seeing patients. If you’re thinking of coming in before the end of year, here’s your reminder to book your session today.

Hello! I have a scheduling update.

I am now seeing patients Monday through Thursday. Fridays are no longer on the schedule.

As a reminder here is my current availability :

Monday 8:30-12 and 2-5
Tuesday 8:30-2
Wednesday 9-1 and 4-7
Thursday 8:30-2

ALSO…. some of you have told me that you don’t see availability on the schedule when in reality there is. I’m not sure if this is an operating system issue but please know that you can always direct message me here to double check or through the patient portal.

I’m so happy she’s joined the roster of amazing instructors. Shira has taken over for our much beloved Sammy who moved back to the UK a few weeks ago 😢

Here’s a little bit more about Shira:

I found my way to pilates through yoga. While always a yoga teacher at heart, what drew me to pilates was its intricate approach to strengthening and alignment. I discovered how functional a modality it is – a way to support other forms of exercise and acts of daily living.

I have 5+ years of teaching experience and have worked with a range of bodies, experience levels, and injuries. My love for teaching is rooted in the belief that movement practices are boundless – they have the capacity to heal and transform in profound ways.

My pilates practice has helped me deepen my yoga practice, develop healthier posture and movement patterns, work through injury, cultivate deeper awareness and muscular engagement while strength training, running, walking, sitting, really doing anything. I hope to facilitate a practice in which you can cultivate all of the above and more; one where you can better understand and connect with yourself from a place of curiosity and openness.

We walked thousands of steps a day (like over 20k 😅), scaled so so many stairs, ate to our heart’s content and reveled in Japanese culture and sights.

It is time to sayounara 👋🏽 to this wonderfully interesting and beautiful country and its people.

I’ll be back at BB on Monday 4/7. Anticipating that I will need some time to acclimate I’m only seeing morning patients that week. I still have a few spots open so if you’d like to come in please book your session today. For those coming in I’ll have some Japanese treats to share. 🙂

The week of 4/14 I’ll be back to regular schedule and just to let you know it’s more than halfway booked already.

In January 2020, Back Benders was a thriving wellness clinic offering Pilates and massage therapy, besides my own services. Yet, after a remarkable ten-year run, the world was ravaged by the COVID-19 pandemic. Overnight, two-thirds of my business was nonessential. This resulted in the loss of both employees and revenue. I was fortunate that my chiropractic practice was essential, allowing me to continue working and strategize for the future. With the lifting of restrictions, I developed a plan to maintain the distinctive complementary services that set Back Benders apart from other wellness clinics. I would create a wellness collective, BB Wellness Collective (that’s BB as in Back Benders, hehe). My clinic had the space, equipment, and the added benefit of providing a beautiful and supportive environment for entrepreneurs to start or grow their businesses.

I’m thrilled with the collective’s progress. Currently, there are three Pilates instructors and one massage therapist. But here is still room for at least two more massage or energy healing practitioners and one more Pilates instructor.
