Sometimes the smallest gestures carry the biggest love 💜🦋

While in Hawaii over Labor Day, Arielle, our Programs and Outreach Specialist, couldn’t miss the chance to visit Neema as she continues her treatment at Shriners Honolulu. 🌺🌈🏥

We brought her a bear, a hug, and a little reminder that her Mending Kids family is always with her. Neema’s strength and spirit continue to inspire us, she is truly on the road to recovery, one brave step at a time. 🐻✨

Over a year ago, Daniela returned home to Malawi 🇲🇼 after undergoing life-saving heart surgery in Italy. Today, she is pursuing studies in journalism at the University of Lilongwe. 📚

Her father recently shared this message with us:

Neema spent most of her life walking on her knees.

When we arranged for Neema to receive care at Shriners Honolulu 🏥🌺, we thought her path would begin with amputation and prosthetics. 🩼

Instead, the incredible team at Shriners saw another possibility. ✨ After several surgeries to strengthen and straighten her legs—Neema can now stand. 💪

Something once unimaginable is now her new reality. 🌈

Her journey to recovery and mobility is still unfolding, but today, we celebrate her courage, her resilience, and the belief that made this moment possible.

We’re honored to have played a role in helping her get here. 💜🦋
