There are many minor salivary glands in the lower lip that can become inflamed due to biting trauma, braces, or other causes of irritation. Inflamed glands become swollen and retain mucous under the lip’s mucosa . At times they drain and resolve and at times they become bigger or stay and cause irritation. Treatment is to remove the minor salivary glands causing the mucous retention, minor oral surgery procedure with minimal discomfort and downtime.
