Anyways, don’t do that right before. A week before? Sure. Let any redness die down. Let your pores breathe.

Before your glam goes on make sure you SKIN PREP. I am talking a hypochlorous spray, eye cream, stellar moisturizer that is non comedogenic but packed with humectants…

Who went to a haunted house last night? For many breast cancer patients, the reality is that their reconstructive fears and frights don’t end in a single day. Breast reconstruction is a journey with multiple stages along the way. Unfortunately, not every patient has the best experience. Here are my recommendations on how to avoid a scary reconstruction:

1️⃣ Find a plastic surgeon who truly listens to you.
2️⃣ If you’re being told “no” for something you really want, consider getting a second opinion from someone who is an expert in what you’re looking for.
3️⃣ Choose a surgeon whose practice is primarily dedicated to breast cancer reconstruction, not someone who only occasionally performs it.
4️⃣ Ask upfront about the entire plan—not just for the first surgery, but for any future surgeries and how they would be scheduled. Make sure you understand the expectations at each step of the journey.

The Art in Surgery

There is Art, and there is Science. Art is creative, subjective, and personal. Science is algorithmic, objective, and ubiquitous. The beauty of Plastic Surgery to me, is that it encompasses both Art and Science.

After graduating medical school, I completed residencies in both General Surgery and Plastic Surgery. After 8 years of training, I chose to pursue an additional fellowship year in Microsurgery. I chose a longer road than many, but each training program has afforded me a unique skillset to make whole again what is lost to trauma and cancer. Cancer treatment is complex, and as a board certified General Surgeon I can speak the language of your Surgical Oncologist. I understand the role of radiation, chemotherapy, and how they affect surgical options. As a Plastic Surgeon I understand the nuance of reconstruction. Every patient deserves a uniquely tailored reconstructive plan that considers every part of their cancer, treatment, and preferences. Microsurgery fellowship has afforded me what I am most proud of: I am well trained to provide the entire gamut of reconstructive surgery.
