Downdog with feet at the wall to L-Pose to Downdog
Here we go. The boundaries are coming into play in a different way. When you flowed through Downdog and Plank, you used breath to guide you. L-Pose requires much more bravery and strength to accompany the breath. So, take it step by step.
Focus on Downdog with your heels on the wall.
When you can breathe steadily and you feel strong there, lean your weight toward your hands.
When you feel strong there and can maintain a deep breath, step one foot on the wall.
Breathe. Assess your support (your shoulders, arms, hands).
Step the other foot up. Find a height that helps you feel strong in your legs and arms. If you can walk your feet to the height of your hips, you’ll feel like you are in a handstand, with the benefit of your feet being supported. Breathe.
To exit, walk down the wall. Step off the wall. Take Child’s Pose.
Key: Pause and assess. Maintain a steady breath.

Plank - Downdog - Plank - Downdog
Start your practice by dropping into your breath from Child’s Pose or a seat. Slowly ease into Plank or Downward-Facing Dog to start and take a few long breaths. Glide from one to the other 1-10 times. Finish with Child’s Pose or continue on to the remainder of your practice.
Key: Your breath is guiding you. It will tell you when you’re done by getting shorter and more difficult. It will tell you how long to take to transition as long as you maintain the same length you began your practice with. Your breath will keep your mind present and focused on the task and your experience of it. In this way, what was just a physical exercise becomes a meditative practice.

Happy Spring!
🌸🌼
This 5 part series is a playful foray into Bunny Hops. There were many a year that I (Brandee) would teach them in class for Spring, for Easter, for fun. That’s the intention - to have fun with it. Yoga is a serious practice in that we acknowledge and adapt to our limitations, every single time we practice. We follow the breath. We care for our bodies and pay attention to our emotional, psychological, and spiritual reactions. Use your ability to practice yoga as you always would, AND, as you hop into Spring, explore a little playtime.

Blood Moon Modular Sound Bath
Tuesday, March 3 at 7pm
Event link in bio 🔗

The wee hours of the morning on March 3rd present us with a total lunar eclipse. The moon will appear a glorious red color, which deems it a “blood moon.” Join us the evening of 3/3 for a sound meditation to reflect on what the eclipse uncovered. We will get grounded in the support of the room, the sound, and the community of people around us. We will nurture the parts of ourselves that feel a little tender. We will digest the lessons we have taken from the lunar occurrence. This event will focus on the lower chakras, which is just what we want to be working with as Spring begins to make its way to the forefront.

EVENT INCLUDES: Mindful Breathing, Guided Meditation, Sound Bath with Crystal Bowls + Modular Synth
PLEASE BRING: A mat to rest on, a pillow, and a blanket to cover yourself. A journal to record your experience and insights.
VENUE: Chapel of St. Francis - Atwater Village
PRICE: $30 - $35

Happy Winter!
We’ll use this evening post as a reminder to quiet the body and mind. This restorative posture completes our Winter Series. Happy holidays! May you enjoy the restful nature of the season ❄️

REST
Using a bolster / bed pillow and 2 blankets, enjoy a supportive backbend that will expand the space around your heart and lungs. Breathe easier with a few minutes of dropping down and in. Once you settle in for 5 minutes, roll gently off your props and take Savasana to complete the practice.

Happy Solstice!
Pair our Restorative Pose from our Winter Series with this soundscape for a relaxing treat that lasts all Winter long!

Happy Solstice!
We’ll use this morning post as a reminder to enjoy the culmination of our efforts. In this practice, we can add together our grounding, activating, and warming energies to accomplish something more challenging. In our life, which mirrors our mat, we see that our challenges are conquered through the experience we’ve gained. Today is a good day to start to notice how you have managed yourself this year: all your strength and strides and proud moments.

BALANCE
Here, we add balance to our series of capabilities. Ground through your standing limbs; energize through repetitive movement; warm up with core work; balance with a smooth and steady breath. Once you have finished 5 rounds on each side, snuggle back into Child’s Pose for a moment of self-observation. You have accomplished so much!

As we warm up our core, we have the opportunity to send that heat and energy out. How will you use it this Winter?

ENERGIZE
This is our second (of 2) grounded, energizing core exercise. We added the block for a reminder that props can help create space and alignment that serves us during challenging postures. How similar to life! Practice this for 5 or more rounds, but be slow and deliberate. Breathe in to come to center / Breathe out to twist. Once you finish, return to center and place your feet on the floor for Constructive Rest Pose. Give yourself a moment to feel your inner heat and energy and to decide how you wish to distribute it!

Given that this series is meant to carry you through Winter, we felt it imperative to add a warming element. What more efficient way to warm up than from the very core?! The next two offerings will challenge your abdominal muscles without straining your back. Stay warm out there!

WARM UP
For our first of 2 grounded, yet energizing core exercises, we will stabilize the spine using the floor. This first exercise uses the hip flexors to help out as you tap one foot at a time against the floor. Breathe in as you tap down / Breathe out to lift up. Upon completion of 5+ rounds, return to Constructive Rest for some Windshield Wipers and for a moment of rest. Notice the effects of your hard work!

After doing this Dynamic Chair Pose, feel into your own physical strength. Simply becoming aware of your leg muscles working as you stand or how your feet roll against the ground as you walk reminds you of your ability to hold yourself upright. Gain confidence as you move through the world with stability!

STABILIZE
For our final stabilizing exercise, we will use Chair Pose with Arm Sweeps. Feel how your hamstrings power up as you bend into Chair. Engage your glutes and quads as you stand back up into Mountain. This way, your legs are engaging consistently throughout the exercise. Once you’ve completed 5+ rounds, stand in Tadasana and feel how secure you are in your stance!

When we work with our Root Chakra, we access a part of us that feels at home in our bodies. What a pleasure to be at one with the forms we live in! This is a practice that takes patience and concentration. Let’s use this lunge technique to challenge our balance, empower our legs, and deepen our root connection.

GET ROOTED
This is the second of our stabilizing exercises. Start with establishing your Crescent Pose. Place your hands on a chair or blocks for more support. Inhale to straighten your knees with a long spine / Exhale to bend them. Keep a steady gaze, with a focus on your connection to the ground. Move slowly. To finish, step into Mountain Pose and feel the weight of your legs holding you. Then, repeat on your second side.
