This marks the end of our Summer Series. They are here for your enjoyment for the second half of summer. Practice them in order or put them in your own sequences. Let us know if you gain any insight from them or have other postures you are preferring right now. DM us with variations or questions. Join our online classes any and every week!

PASCHIMOTTANASANA
This forward fold uses the floor for grounding and stability; the firming of the thighs, hip flexors, and lower abdominal muscles for support; and the breath for freedom while stretching. Soothe your mind with this inner-focused fold. Let your back receive your breath as you hold this posture for 1-3 minutes. If you are tight or uncomfortable, check your alignment and stay with it. If we allow it, the pose releases after a bit and the whole experience becomes more easeful.

Full Yoga Classes available every week online and in person. See bio for link and details.

DOWNWARD-FACING DOG POSE
For our last 2 postures, we will guide ourselves into introspection. Forward folds draw us into our own bodies and minds, inviting mindfulness while calming the nervous system. Consequently, they also cool us down more than any other group of postures (like backbends or side leans for instance). So, take your time with Downward Dog and tomorrow’s posture. Breathe deeply and observe your experience. If you’d like a block variation that supports tight shoulders or tired arms, DM us and we’ll show you how.

SIDE LYING STRETCH
Combine power and balance in this seemingly simple, but actually quite stimulating posture. Use your core to tap into your inner strength, patience to find balance and extension (of the leg), and confidence to stick with it for 1 minute on each side. Conclude the series by laying prone, head on hands, and taking deep Belly Breaths.

GATE POSE
Ahhh, get that breath into the side lungs! Expand your capacity to breathe in all directions by making space around the ribs. This posture is part stretch / part tone, depending on which side you look at. It can be done as a vinyasa with Supported Side Plank (DM for details), or can be done alone. Be sure to do both sides and breathe equally deeply throughout. Notice which side feels tighter and observe what activities might be causing that. Finish with Child’s Pose and be sure to notice the freedom in your breath.

Today, Lammas, marks Summer’s turning point. We are moving toward the tail end of the season. The holiday celebrates the grain harvest, which reminds us to be grateful to our land and for our food. It reminds us to find excuses to come together and appreciate both things in community. Our purpose with this yoga series is to bring some positive physical movement into our Summer experience. These postures are meant to softly expand into the Solar Plexus, while feeling grounded and stable in doing so. They will make us feel strong and confident as we shine out with deep breathing. They will transition into quieter, cooler postures for those days that are just too much. Please join us over the next week as we reveal our Summer Series.

SPHINX POSE
We begin with a posture that both honors and soothes. It moves into the heat of our solar plexus by stretching the area, but we stretch against the ground. Can’t get more grounding than that! We show the pose without props, but you can add a blanket or bolster under your hips for more lumbar spinal support. Feel free to DM us for details on how. For now, enjoy your expansive spinal extension and remember to breathe deeply and freely.

JOIN US LIVE TOMORROW / TUES 7.29
as beautiful sound vibrations filter through your heart to help contribute to the overarching theme of the evening’s event: compassion. Let your breath draw in compassion - let the sound mobilize compassion - let the Metta Meditation direct compassion.
This is a practice that drops us into our innate loving selves and empowers us to be more free. It rids us of the burden of fear / hate / aversion, which steal our energy and strength. It fosters a heart focus which helps us accomplish what we need to in the world.

Do you remember all the glorious plants Christian babied over the years of having our studio on Western Ave? Those he bought and those gifted by Siesta Yogis are still being well taken care of. Many live in the small space we have in Atwater Village. This particular one was given to us by a friend who moved away to CT. Would you like to see how they are all doing? Come by! We do private lessons for up to 4 people. Bring yourself. Bring friends. Do yoga, meditation, breathwork, and / or a sound bath in the space we’ve made (photo 2)!
