Poodle Club of Southern California

Poodle Club of Southern California Poodle Club of Southern California Our Poodle Club was established in 1939, and we are the oldest affiliate club of the Poodle Club of America. B. C. D. E. F.

The Poodle Club of Southern California is dedicated to the promotion of the Poodle breed, and the education of Poodle enthusiasts everywhere. CODE OF ETHICS

Each member of the Poodle Club of Southern California who is a breeder, shall plan his/her breeding program so as to eliminate faults and to maintain and intensify virtues of type, quality and temperament. All breedings shall be done selectively toward this goal. There shall be accurate and proper identification of all breeding stock. All registration papers, pedigrees, breeding records and show entry information shall be done accurately according to AKC regulations. Any member who knowingly falsifies registration papers or show entries shall be expelled from the Club and their actions shall be reported by the Club to the American Kennel Club. A bitch should not produce a litter more than three times in two years. Genetic evaluation is recommended for all stock appropriate to the variety. Suggested tests are:
A. OFA or PENNHIP certified free of Hip Dysplasia, Luxating Patella and Legg Perthes. DNA test for PRA (preferred) or yearly eye exam by a Diplomat of the American Veterinary College of Ophthalmologists. DNA test for Von Willebrand’s Disease. Sebaceous Adenitis (bi-annually) with hyperkeratosis. Thyroid Dysfunction. Auto Immune Problem Free (Addisons disease, Lupus, Hemolytic Anemia, etc.). Dogs which are affected with, or have produced any of the following should be eliminated from your breeding program: Epilepsy, Auto Immune problems (Addisons disease, Lupus, Hemolytic Anemia, etc.) Stock that is excessively shy or vicious or stock with known hereditary defects or disqualifying faults shall be spayed or neutered. AKC papers should be withheld until buyers furnish proof of spay or neuter. With each Poodle sold, the breeder shall (unless said sale is covered by Paragraph 7 above), furnish a signed registration application or transfer or promissory note of forthcoming registration. A promissory note should include full particulars on the dam and sire, their registration numbers, the date of birth of the litter and a brief description of the puppy being sold. The breeder shall also furnish to the purchaser a pedigree of at least (3) generations and copies of all genetic testing. THE BREEDER should also give to the purchaser written instructions regarding the care of the dog; feeding, health needs and history, grooming requirements and information, housebreaking and training tips and the dates and types of vaccines already administered as well as those still needed. It is recommended that all puppies offered for sale should have had a health check up, immunization against Distemper-Hepatitis-Parainfluenza-Parvo, and a negative microscopic fecal examination for parasites. Before being released to the purchaser the puppy or dog shall be freshly and correctly groomed and bathed. The purchaser should be advised to have the puppy be given a routine veterinary health exam as soon as possible, preferably within 72 hours, for the protection of both the buyer and the breeder. The breeder should be available to answer questions and give advice to the new owners. Any member or prospective member with a problem pertaining to breeding, exhibiting, health, grooming etc. is encouraged to seek the help and advice of more experienced breeders. Members are encouraged to be available to help each other and the general public whenever needed. Members should be ready and willing to assist other members in time of emergency or need when the health or welfare of any dog is in jeopardy. Good sportsmanship and fairness is expected at all time s and in all situations pertaining to dogs. The Commercial breeding of Poodles as a sales item is to be deplored and discoraged because the maintaince and improvement of quality ceases to be the goal of each mating. Poodles are never to be placed with a dealer or pet shop. No person who places or accepts dogs for sale or breeding in a pet shop shall be or become a member of the Poodle Club of Southern California. No person who has in any way questionable interest in the breed may become or remain a member of Poodle club of Southern California. Any just complaint shall be brought to the attention of the club officers and be acted upon in the proper manner as specified in the Constitution and By-Laws. Members of the Poodle club of Southern California may state in their advertising that ehy are members in good standing and signatories of the club's
Code of Ethics.
