USC Phi Lambda Sigma

USC Phi Lambda Sigma The official page of the Phi Chapter of Phi Lambda Sigma at the University of Southern California, School of Pharmacy.

Mission statement: to encourage, recognize, and promote leadership in pharmacy. About us:
Founded in 1988, the Phi chapter of Phi Lambda Sigma at the University of Southern California, School of Pharmacy aims to promote leadership qualities, especially among student pharmacists. The Society encourages participation in all pharmacy activities, and because membership does not cross fraternal and organizational lines, the Society does not compete with other pharmacy organizations. Phi Lambda Sigma honors leadership, selecting members through peer and faculty recognition. Such recognition instills and enhances self-confidence, encourages less active students to become involved, and promotes greater effort toward the advancement of pharmacy. The Phi Chapter is comprised of the top leaders at the USC School of Pharmacy. Membership is exclusive, and deservingly so, as it reflects the quality of students selected. In no way is Phi Lambda Sigma an "officer's club." Membership, although exclusive, is not out of reach for students passionate about professional leadership. Chapter members are chosen based on one's initiative and performance as a leader in all facets of pharmacy, not based on the number of positions held. This includes, but is not limited to, involvement in professional organizations, committees, organizational activities, and school activities, as well as leadership positions related to pharmacy. The initiation and success of new ideas and activities are highly regarded, as simply holding a position is not necessarily synonymous with being a leader. The ability to work well and communicate with others on a professional basis is fundamental. Support from colleagues is of the utmost importance to allow good ideas to be transformed into action.

That's a wrap on the 16th Annual Pharmacy Leadership Seminar!🎉

We hope our attendees were able to gain insight on how to navigate pharmacy school and develop one's professional self to new levels. Leaders create more leaders, not followers! We continue to challenge student pharmacists to take the inspiration they receive and motivate others to reach new heights.

Special thanks to our advisor, Dr. Tam Phan, and our wonderful guest speakers, Dr. Sai Upadhyayula and Dr. Susie Park for the words of wisdom that you impart on the next generation of leaders in pharmacy! ✌️

Best wishes to everyone for a successful academic year! 😊

Congratulations to our Mentor-Mentee of the month for this past December, Jafar Essayli (Mentor P3) and Heather Yen (Mentee P1). Thank you Heather for sharing your experience with our mentorship program and thank you Jafar for your dedication to your mentee.

Heather: “Jafar goes above and beyond to ensure my success as a P1. He is always so encouraging and motivates me to reach beyond my goals. Not only has he provided amazing advice on how to navigate my first year, he checks up to see how my week has been and how classes are going. He is always so uplifting and positive, I'm so lucky to have such a caring mentor! Professionally, Jafar has told me all that I needed/wanted to know and more about how to succeed in my classes while balancing a leadership role. He was one of my biggest influences in pursuing a leadership position. Personally, Jafar has been very kind and genuine. I have more than a mentor now, I have a friend! :)”

Congratulations to our Mentor-Mentee of the month for this past November: Vinny Truong (Mentor) and Lesley Chan (Mentee)

Lesley: I was definitely feeling stressed during the APPE selection process as I'm sure a lot of my class also felt the same way. Vinny offered weeks in advance to look over all my APPE choices, told me to send him a list of my choices, what I was debating on, and gave me great feedback on every single one that I chose. I probably had him look it over about three times before I felt confident enough to submit it. During an important time such as our APPE selection process, I am very grateful that I had an amazing mentor like Vinny to talk me through it. Thank you, Vinny! You're the best!

Thank you Lesley for sharing your experience with Vinny, and thank you Vinny for serving as a great mentor!

Congratulation to our Mentor-Mentee of the October Month:
Kaycey Pearce (Mentor) and Michael Kim (Mentee)

Michael: "Kaycey is one of a kind. She is caring, professional, and inspiring. Kaycey has given great insight into what it takes to be a competitive pharmacy student. She has shed tremendous insight about her path to oncology and her plan upon graduating. She periodically checks in on me to ensure that I am doing well with work, school, and anything else. Furthermore, she organized a meet and greet with other PLS mentees/mentors over a dinner where we all got to learn more about each other, our goals, and aspirations."

Thank you Michael Kim for sharing your experience with our mentorship program and thank you Kaycey Pearce for your dedication to your mentees.
