If you took your child to the doctor limping and the doctor said, "Limping is just a bad habit. This child should just try not to limp." you would know that the doctor doesn't really understand the problem.
You would hopefully seek out a doctor who better understands the problem and knows how to address it instead of blaming it on the child.
When it comes to posture, however, that's exactly what happens. We treat it like a bad habit and say that the person needs to 'remember' or 'try' to have better posture and never seek out a solution to the problem.
There is a reason that posture breaks down over time and it can be assessed, addressed, and corrected.
In our office we change posture not by blaming people or telling them to 'remember' to stand straight. We find the problems that cause bad posture and correct them.
And when we do, what do we see?
Posture improves.
Even in people who tried the exercises and the straps and devices. Even in people who had to painfully strain to force their body not to slouch.
Good posture is not a habit just like walking without a limp is not a habit.
True good posture is light, easy, and relaxed.
Good posture is achievable for most people, probably even you.
