Rasa Veda Healing

Rasa Veda Healing As a young child, I remember watching my grandmother place pods of cardamom and fragrant dried clove flowers in her purse before any outing.

Prevention Health Therapy and Longevity of Life: " The understanding of the totality of an entity does not arise from the fragmentary knowledge of it" -Charakasamhita Curious, I asked her why she did this and she replied that these spices would help her if she were to ever experience any discomfort, be it for indigestion or her old teeth. This was my Ayurveda 101. A native Los Angeleno, I was raised by two Western physicians in this diverse city. I was also blessed to be surrounded by my South Indian community, and its rich culture, customs, and my mother’s healing, vegetarian cooking. My path to Ayurveda arose only after a harrowing experience with the Western medical system’s treatment of a loved one. I was left frustrated, discouraged and seeking alternative methods of healing. As I read about the wisdom of Ayurveda, a distant childhood memory resurfaced and I felt my calling: to learn and share this gift with others. I completed my studies with the Kerala Ayurveda Academy here in Los Angeles and my Ayurvedic medical residency at Kerala Ayurveda Hospital in Southern India. Here, I witnessed the depth of Ayurveda’s healing capacity on patients with severe “dis-ease”. So simple in its treatment, this 6,000 year old holistic medicine system uses whole foods, organic herbs, and yoga of the mind and body to treat any imbalance the body may experience. Ayurveda heals not just by treating the physical body but by connecting it with the spirit and the mind.

Yonni Dhupana ~ Assisting Apana Vayu into a deeper grounding.

An effective Ayurvedic treatment that employs steam from a hot herbal mixture that is directed onto the va**nal area. It is be done on a special stool, or even just a slatted chair, by sitting over a steaming pot of herbs. This method of treatment has proved its efficacy in various diseases related with va**na and menstruation and helps in fertility.
While performing Yoni Dhupana, the medicinal properties from the herbs blend with the heat from the steam and reaches the outer va**nal wall and thereafter the medicinal property is absorbed by the inner layer of va**na which stimulates the vestibular fossa, Bartholin glands etc., thereby helps in balancing the secretions and stagnation within the va**nal area. It also helps in improving blood circulation to the area.

I’m re-introducing myself here on this platform as a way to connect with folk from all different walks of life. In all transparency I’ve struggled in the past of putting myself out here because there was some part of me that didn’t resonate 100%. Sharing on this platform felt at times like a full time job and took me away from the work I actually do on a day to day basis ~ which is honoring and holding sacred space with my patients through my practice at Rasa Veda Healing.

This being said, I’ve come to a better balance in my feelings and understandings about my presence through IG or FB. I’m softening around how, when, and where to show up for my community and commitment to my ancestral medicine. My hopes in moving forward is to connect and share with you all the beauties of plant medicine and the balance through the elementals.

So Hello Again!

My name is Sheila Govindarajan. I am a licensed Clinical Ayurvedic Practitioner and Medicinal Aromatherapist.

I’ve had the great fortune to build and grow my Ayurvedic practice for over a decade now in my hometown of Los Angeles, California.

I completed my studies with the Kerala Ayurveda Academy here in Los Angeles and India, Ayurveda Polarity Yoga Therapy Institute with Amadea Morningstar in Santa Fe New Mexico, Medicinal Aromatherapist through Wisdom of the Earth in Santa Fe New Mexico, and my Ayurvedic medical residency and Yoga Therapy at Kerala Ayurveda Hospital in Southern India. It was when I was in India that I witnessed the depth of Ayurveda’s healing capacity on patients with severe “dis-ease”. So simple in its treatment, this 5,000 year old holistic medicine system uses whole foods, organic herbs, and yoga of the mind and body to treat any imbalance the body may experience. Ayurveda heals not just by treating the physical body, but by connecting it with the spirit and the mind.

My practice at Rasa Veda constitutes of Ayurvedic consultations to determine your Constitution, Prakruti; Cleansing/Detox, PanchaKarma; Meditation, Pranayam; as well as to teach one how to administer daily Self-Care therapies, Dinacharya. Though our Self -Care rituals we began to develop deep Self-Love. My specific passion is the healing properties of essential oils and their balancing effect on your Prakruti. I create herbal medicated Abhyanga oils/salves, Ayurvedic herbal tonics, and custom blended aromatherapy oils. All the oils and herbs are tuned-in, organic, wildcrafted, or from biodynamic farming techniques.

I invite this community to experience and share the healing wisdom of this ancient Hollistic medicinal system.

It was in the spring of 2011 where I was living in Kerala and in my Ayurvedic residency program, working and shadowing Vaidyas (Ayurvedic doctors) at Kerala Ayurveda Hospital. Bijou, one of the heads of the PanchaKarma department told me about this special place that I needed to visit before I left back to the US. So we found ourselves driving through the Kerala countryside not a day later. The journey took about 6 hours from Aluva/Kochi to the edge of the jungle where we were greeted by these amazing craftsmen. These carpenters source their wood sustainably by building with lumber that has fallen down or were partially rotten or dying. I was there to speak with them about building me a Dhroni~ the wooden Ayurvedic table used for PK treatments .

They had just come into Vegai/Vengai wood, also known as Vijaysar Tree. This is a deciduous tree that grows to 30 m/ 100 ft and found in the the Karnataka, Kerala, Nepal, and Sri Lanka areas. It has antibacterial, antimicrobial, anti inflammatory and astringent properties, and like the Neem Tree, helps with skin conditions from vitiligo, eczema to psoriasis to cuts and bruises. For thousands of years the heartwood of this tree is also known and used for reducing blood sugar in diabetes, cholesterol, triglycerides, gout in Pitta conditions, reduces excess fat, assists in setting fractures and relieving joint pain, and a herbal tea prepared from the bark helps with intestinal parasites.

I'll never forget when she finally made it to Rasa Veda Healing... it took a year from the time I was there in the jungle with the carpenters looking at her just as raw wood to the table you see you in this photo.

At this time in my practice I have held sacred space with many people on this table~ I find like a cast iron pan it gets seasoned which each visit, making its therapeutic properties more potent.

Preparing folk their packages. I LOVE MY WORK! I've grown my private practice for four years now. It's been a beautiful journey of self discovery and how much I can be of service for folk.

I'm happy to offer this year a monthly gift to a lucky individual who gets their name drawn from the hat. The catch is you can't send me your own name, it needs to be a person you know who is long overdue for Rasa Veda loving. PM me full name, phone number, email address of individual you know who would benefit from an treatment.

All my love, all the time

First post of the new year.. oh man did the flu get me! I'm on the mends and back to work at . It feels good to be of service~ holding sacred space for folk needing a reminder of .

I took this snap of my parents this last Sunday. They were on their way to the Malibu Temple to honor Vaikuntha Ekadashi : sacred passage that opens the door to enlightenment. I have the fortune of parents that believe in the power of rituals, meditation, and mantras. It's no surprise that I found my through the wisdom of Ayurveda and music.

Giving thanks to community & soul family. Giving thanks for all of you on your path finding your voice and sharing yourselves with one another. Wishing you an incredible year despite all that we collectively have to face.
