Letter from the Executive Director
Anyone who knew Gayle McKenna, knew OCC was her passion. For the past 15 years, it was not only her passion and her work, but it was her life. Now it's time to make OCC her legacy. I am honored and humbled that Gayle asked me to lead her organization as the new president. Our mission to raise awareness through early detection, education and research remains as strong as ever. As we move forward, we will be reorganizing OCC for the purpose of creating an organization that is sustainable, transparent, and joyously successful. By implementing specific procedures and processes, we can avoid the type of complications that resulted in our cancelled Walk/Run... (A disappointment none of us ever want to face again). A look ahead at 2014
While there is a lot of work ahead, we are on track with our 2014 events. Our Walk/Run date has been confirmed for September 14, 2014. This event will also be a memorial for Gayle McKenna. I'm very excited to be back on schedule with our annual Walk/Run and to pay tribute to our founder. Our annual Lunch & Learn will be held on April 5, 2014 at Sportsman's Lodge in Studio City. We will announce the speakers and line up when the agenda has been confirmed. There's plenty to be excited about at OCC. We have expanded our tech team and will be implementing a non-profit software program to simplify our administrative procedures by the end of the year. This program will help continue to meet our growing needs. We are developing instruction manuals for various tasks and events. This will provide volunteers and staff with the clarity needed to perform their duties with accuracy, ease and confidence. Volunteering should be easy and fun. When it comes to our current office location... Well time’s up! We have until February to relocate our office, so the search has begun. While our physical office will be changing, our P.O. Box remains the same, as well our phone number and key contact information. I'd like to give special thanks to our officers, board members and volunteers who have all been amazing throughout this transition. Also, I'd like to thank our donors who have been understanding and compassionate during our time of loss. Without your support none of this would be possible. OCC is an incredible organization that is truly making a difference. I am firmly committed to our mission and to expanding our reach and our impact. If you have any suggestions for OCC, we’d love to hear them. Please email me, chrisbledy@gmail.com. Sincerely,
Chris Bledy - Executive Director
