Through our Core Learning Skills Training program, we assess each child to see which primitive reflexes may still be retained (meaning they haven’t fully integrated or “gone away” when they should have). From there, we create a customized plan to help the nervous system mature so learning can become easier and more natural.
In this video, we’re demonstrating the Moro (startle) reflex.

The Moro reflex is an early survival reflex present at birth, designed to help infants respond to sudden changes in their environment (like loud sounds or loss of support). It should naturally integrate within the first few months of life. When it remains active beyond infancy, it can keep a child’s nervous system in a heightened “fight-or-flight” state.

When this reflex is present, you may notice:
▪️Overreaction to loud sounds, bright lights, or sudden movement
▪️Heightened anxiety or difficulty with emotional regulation
▪️Easily startled or fearful in new situations
▪️Difficulty calming down once upset
▪️Poor impulse control
▪️Sensitivity to changes in routine or transitions
▪️Motion sensitivity or car sickness
▪️Sleep challenges

Educational impact can include:
🔺Difficulty focusing in busy or stimulating environments�🔺Becoming overwhelmed in classroom settings�🔺Trouble with transitions or unexpected changes�🔺Avoidance of new tasks due to fear of failure�🔺Emotional outbursts or shutdowns when stressed�🔺Challenges with attention and regulation

✨SNOW ANGELS✨

This movement:
▪️reduces sensitivity to touch around the lower back area,
▪️improves one’s ability to use both sides of the body together & coordinate upper and lower body movements,
▪️is calming to the nervous system,
▪️and activates trunk muscles and helps the brain integrate the reflex pattern.

Try this 5 x week for 3-4 weeks! Just a few minutes a day can support regulation and posture.

As families and professionals supporting children with Pediatric Feeding Disorder (PFD), we know how isolating and overwhelming the journey can feel. That’s why I’m honored, as the Feeding Matters California Community Council Chair, to invite you to a meaningful watch party and discussion for the Shannon Goldwater Summit for Change Kickoff Event, hosted by Feeding Matters.

This powerful kickoff launches the annual International PFD Conference and centers on feeding development beyond the growth chart, focusing on the child, the family, and the multidisciplinary care that truly moves the needle.

Meet Edna, one of our therapeutic learning coaches at Bright Beginnings! 🌟 Today she’s sharing some of her go-to focus strategies for kiddos with ADHD (and honestly, these work for all busy brains!).

1️⃣ Visual Schedules: When expectations are visible, kids feel more in control. It lightens the mental load and makes transitions smoother.

2️⃣ Movement Breaks: ADHD brains need to move! This fuels focus, boosts mood, and helps kids tune into their bodies.

3️⃣ Reward Charts: Reward charts keep them motivated. The “beads in the box” work as each time a student tries their best, stays focused, or shows kindness to themselves, they get a bead. When they collect all the beads, they win a small prize at the end of the day. The prize can be something the child genuinely enjoys, like crackers or a fidget toy. This method teaches progress over perfection by celebrating every effort.

For older kids, customize their chart specifically with characters or themes they enjoy and love. This personalization makes the system more meaningful and engaging. At the end of the task or day, sit down together and have a conversation reflecting on their progress. Doing this together helps deepen self-awareness as the child thinks about what went well and areas to improve, fostering honest self-reflection and growth.
