Fourteen years ago tomorrow, on January 5, 2012, this little pug came home with us.

It was his gotcha day.
Back then, we didn’t know yet who he would become. We just knew he curled up like this, fell asleep deeply, and somehow made our whole world feel quieter and fuller at the same time.

I still remember how Olli and I stood outside our front door with him, convinced we were doing everything by the book. We had read that a new puppy was supposed to step over the threshold on his own.
So we waited. And waited.

Manni had other plans.

He just stood there. Not scared. Not dramatic. Simply… unmoved.
We tried treats, gentle words, encouraging gestures. Nothing. He clearly hadn’t read the online recommendations.

It was cold, and after about half an hour we finally gave up, picked him up, and carried him inside.

Looking back, that was very on brand.

This photo was taken at the very beginning.
Before routines, before inside jokes and orange watermelon, before we understood how completely he would change our lives.

Today, this memory feels bittersweet. I miss him more than words can say.
But I’m also endlessly grateful, for every year, every habit, every moment that grew from this first day.

Love started here.
And it stayed.

Did you guys know it's "National Maple Syrup Day", and maybe we will get some pancakes? Did you hear about the maple syrup company that went out of business? Those Poor Saps! BOL!
