Hey there! 👋
If we haven’t met I’m Jenni, a physical therapist who specializes in helping women recover from breast cancer treatment, like say a mastectomy.
☁️
There are lots of reasons you might still have pain months and even years after your mastectomy. Some are:
- scar tissue
- radiation can alter your soft tisssue
- you adapt new ways of moving that cause strain
- no one showed you how to breathe correctly after surgery
- you’re in menopause and everything hurts more
- you’re still processing the emotional trauma and it’s showing itself in your body.
- and a million other reasons…
☁️
If any of this hits home, please give my account a follow for more info! Or if you’ve found it helpful please share so another Breastie can get the info she needs. 🙏💙

Sleep after mastectomy can be a challenge- even months after you have “healed.”
☁️
There are many reasons for this. One overlooked culprit- especially if you can’t sleep on your side- can be the scar tissue left over from your drains!
☁️
Use a mirror to locate your drain scars (they’re usually small and blend in once healed). Try some gentle massage- if it feels sore and tender that can be an indication it needs some more work.
☁️
I’ve given some ideas in this video to help soften them but when in doubt go see a physical therapist! We love to help break up scar tissue.
☁️
How has your sleep been after mastectomy? Any tips you’d like to share?
And if you found this helpful please share to other breasties! Let’s not gatekeep the info you all deserve to feel better. 💙🙏

Deciding on a breast reconstruction is a big deal.
(That is, if you get to make the decision. For some, circumstances beyond your control, like treatment options or insurance coverage decide it for you).
☁️
As a physical therapist who specializes in helping women recover from breast cancer treatment, I’m sharing the differences I’ve observed between implants vs your own tissue.
☁️
What factors influenced your decisions?
If you found this helpful, please share so other breasts can have this info too! 🙏💙

I’m sure I’ll lose followers for this “political” post, but I’m ok with that.
☁️
I needed to offer a virtual hug to everyone, to acknowledge how hard it is to be in the US right now.
☁️
On any given day there are objectively about a million reasons to bang your head against a wall, yet somehow, with the murder of Alex Pretti, it feels worse. ☁️
My goal with this post is just to add a little love to your algorithm. To let you know there are still helpers out there. 💙

Menopause & UTIs — what’s the connection?
☁️
If it feels like UTIs suddenly became a thing during menopause, you’re not imagining it.
As estrogen drops, the vaginal and urinary tissues can get thinner, drier, and less acidic.
That changes the microbiome and makes it easier for bacteria to grow — which means higher UTI risk, even if nothing else has changed.
☁️
The good news? There are ways to lower your risk that don’t involve just “waiting it out.”
☁️
In our latest episode of My Breastie Says, guest Dr Erin Michael — pelvic floor physical therapist, breast cancer survivor, and powerlifter — breaks down:
• why UTIs are more common in menopause
• what actually helps (and what’s hype)
• practical, hormone-safe strategies to protect your bladder health
☁️
If you’re peeing more, burning more, or worrying every time something feels “off,” this episode is for you.

Just because it’s common to have lingering pain after your mastectomy or breast reconstruction doesn’t mean you have to live with it!
☁️
Definitely easier said than done, esp when your MDs are saying “you’re fine!”
☁️
That’s why and I focused our most recent podcast episode all about this topic. I explain some of the common reasons you have pain and what you can do about it.
Find wherever you listen to podcasts! (Or link in bio)
If you know a Breastie who has struggled after mastectomy, please share this with them! Let’s get all the info you deserve to those who need it. 💙

We’ve all been there. You’re planning on leaving the house- maybe it’s for fun! Maybe it’s a boring life responsibility- when your body says, “ummm are you sure? Bc we really don’t feel well….”
☁️
If you’re anything like me, living with a chronic illness, this can become an existential crisis.
All of the emotions come out. I’m angry for not feeling well…again!
I’m frustrated bc I cannot figure out what to do- do I cancel? Disappoint all those people? Miss out on a fun experience?
Or do I go anyway, potentially having to leave in the middle of it bc now I feel worse, and then have to cancel the rest of the week’s plans too.
Or maybe I go and it’s fine!? (I can feel in my body it’s already not fine).
☁️
This inner debate has gotten me so tripped up I had to bring it to my therapy session. Shout out to Elizabeth, for helping me come to some sort of peace. I now appreciate that both sides- the stay home and the go out sides- are actually on the same team. They want me to both feel my best AND have the ability to live life to the fullest.
That has brought me some peace.
Do I still get pissy when I have to cancel? nearly always, yes.
But thankfully I have more sessions in 2026 with Elizabeth to learn acceptance and grace!
☁️
How do you manage these situations? Please comment below would love to hear!
🙏💙
