Join us for an extraordinary gathering brought to you by the California Black Women's Health Project in collaboration with Beauty for Ashes Wellness. On October 7, 2023 we are excited to host Dr. DeShawn Taylor and discuss her new book "Undue Burden: A Black Woman Physician on Being Christian and Pro-Abortion in the Reproductive Justice Movement.”

Dr. Taylor, MD MSc, is an award-winning Gynecologist, Family Planning Specialist, Gender Affirming Care Provider, and Reproductive Justice Activist, whose work advances reproductive health care access through direct services, education and training, advocacy, and leadership. In her new book “Undue Burden: A Black Woman Physician on Being Christian and Pro-Abortion in the Reproductive Justice Movement,” which serves as the focal point of our conversation, Dr. Taylor explores the intricacies where faith, extremism, race, gender, policy, reproductive justice and freedom all intersect. Through a physician's lens, Dr. Taylor offers insightful exploration as she sheds light on the multifaceted challenges experienced in our current climate. This discussion provides a safe space to broaden our perspectives and engage meaningfully with our community. Don't miss this chance to be a part of an inspiring conversation that transcends boundaries and fosters greater understanding. Join us on for this discussion October 7, 2023 at Sip & Sonder.

This is a free event. Guests will be accommodated on a first-come-first serve basis. "Undue Burden" will also be available for purchase. Guests are encouraged to find public parking surrounding the venue or at "Market Street Shoppers Parking" behind the venue.

June 6th, 6:00pm-7:30pm

Hey Doulas! Do you want to find out more about enrolling as a Doula provider?

Join us for an online workshop to educate community doulas on the process of becoming approved Medi-Cal providers, able to give full spectrum doula care to beneficiaries under Medi-Cal’s various Managed Care Plans.

REGISTRATION REQUIRED: bit.ly/june6medi-caldoula

It is vital that California increases access to community doulas for families that otherwise could not afford one. There are simply not enough doulas enrolled as providers and contracted with Managed Care Plans to meet the demand for Medi-Cal doulas.

Join us to learn more and be a part of this historical Medi-Cal benefit. Black and Indigenous Doulas, bilingual doulas, and doulas of all abilities and gender expressions, are particularly encouraged to attend.

This event is produced by 'The Community Doula Champions Project' to support California's diverse doula workforce who serve historically marginalized birthing communities. We support doulas in making autonomous choices in their professional development as well as educating families in their perinatal health care options.

*This is a public education project. We are an independent perinatal support program and do not work for DHCS, Medi-Cal or the State of California.
