It’s incredible when we see it in plain sight as data how it makes you really go, “HUH???” 😳😳

Like, there are SO many other more productive things I could do with 8 HOURS of my time!

I’m not trying to sound shame-y or knock anyone else for excessive screen time, but just offer a little perspective which is more for myself than for anyone else. 😊

It’s recommended that we spend less than 2 hours per day on our phones. Raise your hand if you average more than that. 🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️

I probably don’t have to list all the consequences of too much screen time, since we all probably know, but I’m just curious where you land, if you think it’s a big deal and what other things we could all be doing when not on our phones!

I feel like I use my phone do everything from social, to meditation (seems counterintuitive but I like to use ), shopping, podcasts, etc…

Perhaps being more regimented and scheduling times for all of these things will help cut that number way down! ⬇️⬇️

Share your ideas on how to cut back on screen time because the numbers don’t lie in my case and I think it’s probably time for a lil’ detox! 😎

B I R T H D A Y ✨ V I B E S

My 45th is ONE WEEK from today!!! 🎉Those of you who have been on this journey with me for a while now know that it’s my annual ask that you go vegan for my birthday! …or longer! 🌱

You have a week to plan! Even if it’s one meal, you have no idea the impact on your health and the environmental benefits.

One person eating vegan just one day per week saves approx 40lbs of grain, 1,100 gallons of water (equivalent to 4 months’ worth of showers!!), 30 feet of forest, and not to mention, saving an animal’s life.

Why am I vegan and why do I always have the same birthday wish year after year? Well, to be honest, I couldn’t imagine a life where I wasn’t vegan. This year I’ll be going on 13 years plant based and Alana will have been vegan for 7 years! It’s a no-brainer to me. Our lives are not superior to those of animals and our planet simply cannot sustain the destruction that comes from animal agriculture. Being vegan is an act of kindness, and my personal form of passive activism. 👊🏼🫶🏼🌱✨

If you’d like to join me on this lifelong journey, even if you just want to start with the one day (or one meal!), I hope my birthday is the perfect excuse to get on board.

I’m Dori! I’m a vegan Capricorn single mama who’s been in the health and wellness realm for over two decades! 🌟💕

A lot of my work has been focused on nutrition education and food coaching, and I work with clients to help them adjust and empower their eating habits. Most of my clients want to transition to a plant-based diet. 🌱🥑🤘🏼

I’ve also been a bodyworker offering therapeutic massage since 1997, so if you happen to be in Los Angeles, I can certainly be of service to you and your aching body.

I stay quite busy cheffing wellness retreats these days in the Los Angeles and Yucca Valley areas, with the occasional out of state gig—definitely open to traveling more widely and have plenty of availability next year for events if you’re planning one. 👩‍🍳🥦🥬

I offer 1:1 Empowered Wellness sessions to help you align with your higest self and step into your own power. We do this work with a handful of modalities and it’s organically crafted to each client as everyone comes to me with different and unique goals or areas they need support in. 💃🏻

•I am a California native (a valley girl, to be specific!)
•I got my yoga teaching certification while I was pregnant
•I gave up red meat and pork when I was 16, and went full vegan at 31.
•My 6 yr old daughter has been plant-based her entire life
•My favorite food is avocados (runner up being anything chocolate)
•I wanted to be a fashion designer when I was a little girl
•A personal non-work related goal of mine is to learn how to sing

I felt like this incredible woman needed a s/o today. This is the one and only of Sacred Woman Collective] . If you don’t know who she is by now, do yourself a favor and get on board. I see vulnerability as strength, not a weakness. I see it as a breeding ground for true and pure connection. I loathe small talk. Let’s get awkward and spark interesting conversations.

The whole point of this one precious life is to expand and evolve and how can we do this if we do not allow ourselves to actually be seen and ask that of others.

I know it can be a scary place; to expose yourself. To open your heart. To speak your truth. …but what you get in return is authentic connection. …and also, that whole idea of you being “too much” if you are your authentic self, well guess what? Those who actually think that are NOT YOUR PEOPLE ANYWAY.

I challenge you to show up as you are. To shine bright. To be messy. To open up that big beautiful heart of yours and let the real you pour out onto the people you love. Be vulnerable. Be love. ✨🤍

Happy Saturday! 🎉

I love a good açaí bowl, don’t you? Such a fun way to get creative in the kitchen! I think of the blended açaí as the “blank canvas” because you can truly add whatever you’re feelin’ (or have on hand) to top it with. 💜💜

Here I blended frozen açaí, frozen strawberries, frozen banana, frozen blueberries, a bit of almond milk and unsweetened yogurt.

I topped it with gluten free granola, goji berries, puffed quinoa, coconut shreds, raw pepitas, pistachios, cacao nibs, edible rose petals and passion fruit. 😍♥️✨🌹

WORLD MEDITATION DAY 🙏🏼

I started my meditation practice with a group challenge while I was pregnant 7 years ago. I used and still use that app today.

We had a text thread and checked in when we remembered. I think and may have been in this group, but it was so long again, I forget!!! 😌 Shout out, though! Love you ladies!!

I was committed, but I also knew my days of peace and quiet were slowly coming to an end as I was about to embark on motherhood. I completed most of the challenge, but once I had Alana, I def could not find time to fit meditation in every day. I did slowly bring it back and when I could, I would excuse myself and go to my little corner of the apt and sit in silence. Those few moments were vital to my well-being and mental health. ♥️

For the past 1,288 days, I have managed to fit meditation in consistently. It’s something that if I don’t do, I notice. I become edgy, irritable, fearful, anxious.

I always tell people that are new to meditation or who are intimidated by it for any reason, that it’s not about “knowing how to meditate”, “quieting the mind” or even having the perfect meditation pillow to sit on. It is 100% about consistency. It’s about showing up every day, whether it’s 2 min, 7 minutes or 35 minutes. Some days I literally have 1 minute to take a calming breath and others, I carve out more time. It doesn’t matter how long you sit; just sit. Breathe. Let the thoughts pass without judgement or trying to control them. The goal of meditation is not to add more stress; it’s to become a witness to and get curious about your own thoughts, breath and most importantly, to hit pause on the craziness of life. …and remembering that it’s a PRACTICE, right? The more you practice, the more easily it can and will become integrated into your daily life and you don’t need me to share the limitless benefits of meditation, do you? Okay, here are a few:

•Helps with stress management
•Helps you stay present
•Lowers blood pressure
•Helps with sleep issues
•Decreases anxiety
•Increases gratitude
•Increases self awareness
