More than 100 men out of every 100,000 are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year. As a urologist, I’ve had the privilege of caring for hundreds of men—and their loved ones—facing what can be a shocking and overwhelming diagnosis.
While technology has advanced in remarkable, life-saving ways, the most important part of prostate cancer care hasn’t changed: treating each patient as a whole person, not just a diagnosis. Personalized care helps patients feel heard, valued, and truly understood—and it leads to more thoughtful, targeted treatment decisions.
I recently wrote about the promise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in detecting prostate cancer earlier and more accurately. AI is an incredible tool, but it will never replace the doctor-patient relationship. Trust, empathy, and human connection are what provide reassurance and confidence during some of life’s most difficult moments.
Technology can support medicine—but humanity must always lead it.
