Carol Lewis is a clinically trained psychotherapist who specializes in working with clients on creative issues. Formerly, a successful casting director and producer in the entertainment industry, Carol brings a unique insight into the many stressors of a creative life. Some of the specific issues she works on in her private practice are, fear of failure/rejection, performance anxiety, procrastination, doubt, writer’s block, ageism, career transition, improving relationships, depression, anxiety and addiction. For the past eight years, Carol has utilized a psychodynamic theoretical approach to help clients reach their full potential and lead richer, more satisfying lives, personally and creatively. She explores and challenges the client’s expectations, their fantasies and their fears. Carol works to illuminate and integrate difficult aspects of the client’s self-experience, believing that until we understand who we are, and accept this compassionately, we will not be able to grow as people or thrive creatively. Being a creative person takes courage and not being afraid to fail. But, to be able to learn from our failures and move forward, we need insight into the teachable moments hidden within them. Carol processes with clients what lessons can be learned from failing and helps to identify specific issues that need to be worked on to improve future success and creative fulfillment.

It may be when we no longer know what to do, we have come to our real work, and that when we no longer know which way to go, we have begun.

Your elusive creative genius

I wanted to share this interesting TED talk about creativity that's also on my website.

Elizabeth Gilbert muses on the impossible things we expect from artists and geniuses -- and shares the radical idea that, instead of the rare person "being" a genius, all of us "have" a genius. It's a funny, personal and surprisingly moving talk.
