Happy first day of fall! Even if the sun isn’t bright it’s important to still protect your self from the UV rays of the sun. In the picture I am wearing transition lenses that darken with the intensity of the sun. Transition lenses are great for sensitive eyes !

We are looking forward to the solar eclipse on April 8th. Here in California, we can still view a partial eclipse happening between 10am and 11 am. Please don't look at the eclipse directly, as it can cause permanent damage to your eyes. The following is a list of do's and dont's regarding the upcoming solar eclipse:

Do's:

- Use certified solar viewing glasses to safely observe the eclipse.
- Make a pinhole projector or use other indirect viewing methods to watch the eclipse.
- Protect your eyes at all times during the eclipse, even during partial phases.
- Educate yourself and others about the potential dangers of looking directly at the sun.
- Enjoy the eclipse safely and share the experience with friends and family.
- Nerd out about the solar system!
Don'ts:

- Never look directly at the sun without proper eye protection, including sunglasses or homemade filters.
- Avoid using regular sunglasses, smoked glass, CDs, or other makeshift filters, as they do not provide sufficient protection.
- Do not use telescopes, binoculars, or cameras to view the sun directly without appropriate solar filters. This includes your
phone!!
- Never leave children unattended during the eclipse or allow them to look at the sun without proper protection.
- Avoid staring at the sun for extended periods, even during the eclipse, to prevent retinal damage.
Remember, safety should always be the top priority when viewing a solar eclipse. Enjoy the celestial event responsibly and protect your eyesight for years to come.

There is still a lot of concern regarding the artificial tear recall from this year . Here is a list of the drops that have been recalled. Keep in mind that most of the drops are generic version . If you have any of these dispose of them immediately.

Found to cause damage to eye
1. Ezricare artificial tears
2. Delsam pharma artificial tears and ointment

The following maybe contaminated but no damage to eyes have been reported
CVS health artificial tears
Leader and Rugby by cardinal health
Rite aide artificial tears
Target up up artificial tears
Velocity pharma
Walmart equate artificial tears

On the watch list by FDA is homeopathic drops and regenereyes eye drops

October 2023 marks our five year anniversary at our Silver Lake location. I am grateful to my patients who have supported us through the pandemic.
