Is your child exhibiting a high fever higher than 101.3, red eyes, rash, swollen tongue, irritability, swollen palms, peeling skin? Kawasaki disease is a condition that causes inflammation in the walls of small- and medium-sized arteries throughout the body, including the coronary arteries, which supply blood to the heart muscle. Kawasaki disease is also called mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome because it also affects lymph nodes, skin, and the mucous membranes inside the mouth, nose and throat. The good news is that Kawasaki disease is usually treatable, and most children recover from Kawasaki disease without serious problems.

Dr. Keith Valone of The Arroyos® Psychological Associates Tip of the Week -- Depression can be a daily battle for many of us. Listed below are many techniques to help with depression:

-Sleep: Sleep is a relaxing state that allows breathing to slow down, blood pressure to decrease, and muscles to relax.

-Eat a healthy diet: A healthy diet can help with mental alertness. Also, omega-3s, that can be found in tuna, may help prevent mood swings.

-Exercise: When you work out, your body releases endorphins that generate a positive attitude‒ creating less mood swings.

Did you know 1 in 5 Medicare patients discharged from the hospital is readmitted within 30 days with costs amounting to between 15 billion to 25 billion per year?

A+ Healthcare clinicians and nurses led by our Director of Clinical Nursing Services are actively working together with community, clinical case managers, hospitalists, pharmacists, and hospital administrators nationwide in learning ground breaking new ways to reduce readmission rates, and engage patients in their own care. Numerous studies have shown that when patients experience face-to-face, individualized counseling and coaching achieve better outcomes.

A+ Healthcare clinicians and nurses primary goal is to overall empower and have our community as a whole become better informed, and more engaged in asking questions and taking an active role in managing their health.

Is the incidence of depression increasing? Yes, it's no exaggeration to call it an epidemic. At any given time, 20% of the population – one in five Americans – suffers from some form of depression.

Depression is a mental illness marked by profound sadness and lack of interest in activities. Depression is NOT the same as blue mood. It is a persistent low mood that interferes with the ability to function and appreciate things in life. It may cause a wide range of symptoms, both physical and emotional.
