Yves and I were at our Brentwood, Sunday, farmers market, and I had the honor of meeting someone I highly respect in the field of functional medicine and women’s health .mindypelz
I first learned about Dr Pelz’ work in the summer of 2024; her book Fast Like A Girl was my summer beach read in Kona and I tore through it.
It was the book I’d been looking for, for years; not only to fine tune my own fasting regime, but to use as a tool with my clients.
Fasting is an ancient remedy and when properly understood and executed, it is a true panacea.
The key is understanding how to do it in a way to best support your health goals.
Fasting is all too often positioned as dangerous; granted, there are certain times when one would not want to fast (such when pregnant or breastfeeding).
There are also certain populations that may need more support (such as anyone with a history of an eating disorder).
Aside from that, learning the many benefits of properly cycling a fasting regime into your schedule can be the single most important thing one does to completely change the game from balancing hormones, improving mental focus, resetting the gut biome, addressing anxiety and more.
She even created a chart that any woman can follow (whether they have a regular cycle or not) which has also proved to be an invaluable teaching tool.
Dr Pelz was every bit as lovely in person as she is on her podcast and in her writing style.
It was a true pleasure to meet her, and everyone who’s interested in optimizing their health can truly benefit from all her work!
