Nearly 20 years after it was recommended for phase-out, a toxic pesticide is still widely used across California.

New research co-authored by Yoshira Ornelas Van Horne, assistant professor in the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health’s Department of Environmental Health Sciences, finds that methyl bromide remains in use in 36 of 58 counties, across both urban and rural communities.

As a known developmental, neurologic, and respiratory toxin, its continued use raises ongoing public health concerns.
