This is my mother-in-law, Susan. My kids call her Tutu. She calls me her worst nightmare 😉. She's gonna hate that I'm publicly sharing this story...

About 13 years ago, I was on a walk with her, pushing my oldest (who had just turned 1) in the stroller. I had been building up the courage all day to break some big news...I was going to quit my steady day job at a movie studio to start an ice cream business.

The timing seemed perfect. No distractions, just us walking. I took a deep breath, started my pitch, and before I could get three words out she interrupts with:

“Oh, it’s not that ice cream truck thing, is it?”

Gut. Punch.

I froze, danced around it, and tried to change the subject. What I didn’t tell her was that I already put a down payment on the truck.

Flash forward to tonight where I got to buy her an ice cream in the VIP section of a sold-out concert, where CVT was on the menu and up on the jumbo screen.

I know she meant well back then. She was just scared for her daughter and grandson that her "worst nightmare” was making a very foolish decision. Turns out, sometimes the crazy decisions are exactly the right ones.

P.S. I'm still her worst nightmare.

Skip the overpriced crème brûlée at that “fancy” dinner spot before the show, give yourself a chance to digest, and grab some deliciousness during intermission:
